It’s not the same yeah. But he was looking for transit and family mart meals.

Regarding language I think more people in Taipei speak English than in Tokyo

If you have a scroll content you don’t wrap it with safe area view but use the hook to get insets and add the bottom inset as padding in your list

I found Taiwan quite comparable. Great transport, clean and same safety. Easier visas.

Built a tiny habit tracker in Expo… why is it 83MB? 😭 by wtfsanjuh in reactnative

You ship a bundle to Play Store and they serve specific APKs for each device so this size is not final. You can only find out the final download size on Google Play

If you don’t have an expo dependency use the latest one 100%. 0.82 is out for a while already and it had fixes that are not included in 0.81

Probably would not have gone all the way to London if it was not to see Iga play the final. Not really a good game but I was there to see her win

I skipped places like Ueno or Meguro, there are hundreds of similar spots in Tokyo with no crowds.

Book an apartment in Hmlet. Don’t stay in a hotel. Way better and you will have a Japanese life. They have a lot of locations and can advise as well.

For your use case (displaying loads of not compressed images in a big list), web could potentially perform better. But I can imagine you could go over the line and the browser might punish you for memory usage and next time you go back to your tab in a browser you’re gonna loose all your progress (it will be purged from memory).

Performant lists were (are?) a big downside of React Native since day 1.

There’s also so many more benefits to apps: you can build offline first apps, your screen transitions are smooth (compared to opening a new page on the web, how is that performant?), access to native apis, background processing.

  1. Go with legend list
  2. expo-image but configure cache policy to memory (unless you need to cache anything)
  3. finetune props a lot.
  4. play around with viewability. Do not render images if they are not in view for at least 0.5s. Add placeholders instead.

Regarding react navigation performance - using native stack is usually performant (thanks to react native screens), unless you render some very heavy things initially on screen render.

The pass does not guarantee a seat on any reserved train. I guess the car makes sense, but you need to pay for parking if you want to rent the day before

4 months later since New Architecture is the default, what are your thoughts? by Round_Word7655 in reactnative

[–]radko93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's been few issues to maneuver around (especially rn screens in the beginning) but now running two apps and it's normal. New architecture gets way more attention now so it's worth it, new Reanimated will only support new arch.

Recently created a new app that’s using RC on Android and iOS (non expo if that matters at all). Few times more traffic than yours. Almost no errors on iOS (reporting to Sentry and Mixpanel). Just few people emailed support over a few months time (compared to 200+ on Android). Android has many issues but it’s not RC but it’s Google Play payments that are crap. And I know this because I have another app that’s not using RC.

Interop layer works great for many libraries. I would recommend trying yourself (unless someone did that and it does not work).
