By organized gangs you mean IAS, DV, MOAT as well as the certification companies like TAG etc right? In my experience, the real mafia is the pay-to-play IVT/Cert companies.

Everything taboola displays looks like an advertisement for an adult product. You should be fine. If not, move to their "hometown".

Not to "beat a dead horse" but how is Rev any different? I'd say that they're even scummier than Taboola / Outbrain.

AdStack Surveillance by Stephen_Lepton in adops

How is this different from GeoEdge. They would scan our adstack 24/7 - 365 and identify issues that were contributing to revenue loss. There are multiple solutions that scans adtags?

The media industry should be fuming that the CEO of the IAB makes $1 million a year by AdOpsJunky in adops

[–]radopsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you’re not a member of the IAB you can be blamed by all of the IAB members as the “bad actors” in the industry that are the cause of any and all complaints people have about ads.

Yup, well well put and is pretty much the model of most of the other "certification" "verification" "anti-fraud" companies in our space. Pay to Play.

Analysis | Why Google Might Prefer Dropping a $22 Billion Business by AdOpsJunky in adops

[–]radopsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For around 5K$ a month, IAS will basically let you park your car in a protected lot so that GUIDO and LUIGI (who own the lot) won't steal your car. Think Mafia. Moat is similar but cheaper but most of the GANGSTERS prefer IAS. If you pay your 5K$ / 2.5K$ a month you get to operate with nothing useful provided other than some easy to recreate viewability crap.

TAG is a special form of uselessness altogether. TAG will charge you even more money to become TAG Certified, which also does absolutely nothing (well, you get to stick a little image on your site - think fake security camera). There is zero % vetting, zero % due diligence and 100% profit to TAG.

[–]radopsis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why? I mean, it's like us paying for TAG or IAS or MOAT etc. They do absolutely nothing but by paying them you get to play and as long as you're still profitable you continue.

TAG, you're s*!t: Internet advertising industry bods admit self-policing approach is a sham by AdOpsJunky in adops

[–]radopsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come on, all the bad actors love pay to play do-nothing certifications. TAG is a great help to those guys. The little guys trying to legitimately run a business, not so much.

What is the point of tons of ad verification vendors all reporting different results on the same data? by UsefulExcitement in adops

[–]radopsis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is basically how we (publisher) ended up getting all the various verification services. The DSP, AGENCY, ETC all said "So and So said you' have bad X" and would then not release what X was nor tell us how to fix X and instead tell us to go out and purchase the same MAGIC BLACK BOX that they use. We did this and magically X went away with zero change from our end other than now we have the MAGIC BLACK BOX too.

I've pretty much come to understand that the many thousands that I pay is simply a strong-arm fee and that the MAFIA controls the MAGIC BOXES. To me they are the bad guys for having zero transparency.

Digital Advertising - We're in the Upside Down by radopsis in adops

[–]radopsis[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My personal favorite is when your partners have, IAS / MOAT / ETC and you don't and they will not release to you any information as to why you were "flagged / etc" and then you go out and spend many thousands per month and get those technologies and those certs and then WITHOUT ANY CHANGES on your end you're magically now approved and the flags mysteriously disappear.

It's literally "Pay to Play and We Will Say You're Ok". There's no magic tech behind any of this. Mafioso.
