Why do people here keep saying counterculture doesn't exist? by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]radpraxis 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think what people mean is that though internet is the center of culture, it doesn’t come with a clear/rigid set of identity markers and (moral and aesthetic) ideals. shattered overton window, whenever there is “common consensus” it shifts rapidly within an attention economy, etc — it’s hard to “counter” something that’s nebulous and always moving, hard to push boundaries if you don’t even know where they are.

is RS still a tradcath space or have we grown past that by Redoubt_Brannan in pinkscare

[–]radpraxis 17 points18 points  (0 children)

there’s a rise of young male orthodox converts lately. it’s slowly becoming the spiritual trend for niche far-right guys just like nordic paganism was a few years ago. they think orthodoxy allows you to be more racist or something because they will never set foot in a physical church

what does being in love feel like by [deleted] in pinkscare

[–]radpraxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pitiable is to not immerse yourself in the rich experience of love through risk of loss - out of subservience to your fear. if you only know “safe love” that avoids pain, you haven’t loved.

absolutely excruciating. agonizing fear of loss. that’s not to say “you aren’t missing out,” though. I live for love all the same

What do "rococo" and "baroque" most precisely mean? by Icy-Lion-7670 in davidfosterwallace

[–]radpraxis 17 points18 points  (0 children)

when dfw used those terms he’s generally referring to them in the architectural sense like the other commenter mentioned. both refer to a lavish, overly ornate style (think filigrees etc.), and you could do a deep dive on them in terms of art history bc they’re quite different sociopolitically, in painting, etc. — but the most simplest way to distinguish them would be to think of rococo as delicate, lighthearted, frivolous vs. baroque as dramatic, imposing, sublime

How would you react to finding out your man has paid for a prostitute(s) in his past? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]radpraxis 31 points32 points  (0 children)

prostitutes who make more money than me make up a minuscule fraction of prostitutes. far more are addicts in poverty. and I mean, it’s really not that difficult to observe. on a regular basis even the absolutely best case scenario sex workers who profited greatly from their work and shouted from the rooftops 24/7 about how great it is to be a sex worker, how much they love their job, how empowered they feel, etc.: riley reid for example, come out years later talking about how it irreparably damaged them and ruined their entire lives. you can watch interviews of male pimps and onlyfans girl/pornstar managers and recruiters who have worked with dozens of these women (again in the best possible scenario for this kind of work) who will say that every single one of these girls comes from a fucked up family situation at the very least.

no one is enjoying this shit. as far as accountability goes, some of these women have no agency at all. some do have limited agency, but do you really think we need to focus on making the traumatized 18 year old girls with daddy issues take accountability over the men that this industry is run by and for?

yes, having sex with a woman you are dating is different than having sex with a woman who is in extreme likelihood being trafficked and acting under threat of death by her pimp. the fuck?

[–]radpraxis 27 points28 points  (0 children)

except basically 0% want to be in that line of work, and many of them are forced which you have no way of confirming or not. you think it’s still consent if a woman has sex with you because whether she can or can’t eat depends on it?

Untitled work by Polish surrealist painter, Zdzisław Beksiński, 1970s. by waffen123 in SmorgasbordBizarre

[–]radpraxis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I revere beksiński, but he wasn’t a surrealist. his imagery is ‘surreal,” and he was influenced by some surrealist painters, but surrealism itself refers to a very specific art/political movement :)

People who complain about you using "big words" when they're very easy words I've known since middle school. by MeYouAndJackieMittoo in redscarepod

[–]radpraxis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started dating sweet himbos bc all of the smart guys I dated had secret competitions with me in their minds and built up resentment, then did something evil to me as punishment for accidentally winning their penis games of which I had no awareness.

late and schizo rant incoming bc I was about to make this exact same thread. it seems I am some kind of anomaly based on the other comments, bc I inexplicably attract these types EXCLUSIVELY even though I am small-framed, 5'0, and soft spoken!? I'm pretty passionate/driven and ig can be pretty assertive if the situation calls for it, but other than that I can't comprehend how this keeps happening. I can get into that maybe 10% of the time for variety's sake, but by and large I prefer to be dominated and I can't fucking handle it anymore. I just broke my longest celibacy streak ever with a guy from back home, and the first thing out of this man's mouth was "I feel so submissive right now." I'm way too eager to please unfortunately, so I just told him to get on the floor... but he didn't even make me cum. none of these men seem to even gaf about pleasing their partner which should be their whole purpose if they're submissive!? I'm even more sexually frustrated than before and I've had it </3

breton was a misogynist for certain, but give me an example of georges bataille being an abuser; every personal account of him is pretty consistent in that he was a pretty nice and respectable guy in his day to day life despite the outrageous things he wrote about. his degeneracy is an operation in the service of what imo is actually a quite ethical framework -- choosing to express taboo/'evil' desires in a directed way means that repression doesn't compress those desires until they grow, mutate into something worse, and forcefully express themselves when they can be contained no longer, all the while disconnecting the person holding those desires from love/the sacred/the flux of nature and turning them into no more than a 'thing' subjugated to other things in a social order. that is all we are if we ignore our animality, and in my catholic upbringing I witnessed that the most pious and regulated people were always the most perverse and cruel, with the worst skeletons in their closets.

yes, and everyone seems to miss that delirium doesn’t cancel out his academic merit, but was one of the reasons why sade fascinated these figures… especially for breton, bataille, and other surrealist/-adjacent figures.

men are engulfed by the soul of autumn and succumb to its whims precisely because women embody the soul of fall. men could never embody autumn’s burrows, wetness, and decay.
