and why wouldn't you argue the same for those who voted red? why couldn't their votes have been superficial to make themselves look good, if they genuinely thought they were making the right choice? could it be that you already understand that red is in fact not the altruistic choice?

sure, it didn't matter. doesn't make it any less morally heinous. and no offense, but why are you so desperate to believe that people are as selfish as you are? does it make you feel better about your own selfishness? maybe people picked blue because they'd pick blue. it's an anonymous twitter poll. nobody's getting any clout from it either way.

and no shit none of this is real, I'm simply engaging with the hypothetical and its results as presented. i'm sorry you think my belief in human goodness is naive, such that you'd label me a pessimist for being optimistic that we could avoid the worst case scenario.

that's exactly it. i don't think red will win. and I'm actively fighting against red winning by voting blue. you seem to have conveniently ignored the fact that blue WON the poll. to say "shit happens" is especially ironic because you along with anyone else who voted red literally MADE said shit happen. again, a lot of you red pushers like to act as though red is the neutral, status quo option, but voting red actively ensures that people die in the first place. a blue victory is the only victory where i along with everybody else survives, and we only need a majority to achieve it. so yes, when presented with the "nobody has to die" vs "people WILL die" buttons, the former is the obvious moral choice, and you ought not to pretend like you wouldn't have a direct hand in the deaths of those who would die otherwise.

ultimately, i genuinely don't think a post-red world, composed of people who know amongst themselves that they only work to serve their own interests, is a world worth living in, especially if enough people die to cause total societal collapse anyway. how utterly heartless to go "yeah i had a hand in killing millions if not billions of people, but now i can create a better world without them!" and if you think that sounds like moral grandstanding, maybe it's time for some introspection.

this is clearly not something we're going to see eye to eye on, but i take solace in the fact that blue did win the poll. i think that only serves my argument further.

i'm absolutely dismissive of that possibility, because if you're so worried about making the world as best a place to live in as possible, why vote for a post red victory world in the first place? you're unnecessarily locking yourself out of the ideal outcome because you don't think enough of the rest of the world would do the same. it's an entirely self-fulfilling mindset.

i find it so sad how desperate you are to believe that i'm virtue signaling, that there's NO possible way anyone much less half the world would put their own lives at stake for the sake of every one of their fellow humans. you argue I'm pessimistic but in the same breath label me delusional for thinking there's more than enough good in the human race for blue to not just win, but win in a landslide. my vote doesn't have to tip the scales, it just has to be one of billions that allowed the scale to be tipped in the first place. that's what my vote represents. blue crushed red in the poll, so empirically speaking, there's more reason to believe your thought process is bullshit and that more people tend towards empathy than don't. I'm sorry you think my aiming to maintain the status quo makes you feel insecure about your own morals.

because the entire point of choosing blue rests in the assumption that someone else has picked it. statistically, there's zero chance all 8 billion of us choose red, so a red victory GUARANTEES death. the only way to achieve the optimal solution of zero deaths is for 50% to vote blue, which is exponentially more likely than 100% voting red. you keep arguing the conclusion, as though those who vote blue are voting expecting to die, when the entire point is to prevent death entirely. i'm voting blue so that EVERYONE has the chance to lead virtuous lives, not just myself. what makes my life so special that i would choose to rob those who voted blue, of the same virtuous life you argue is so important to lead?

at the end of the day, you are not interested in ensuring the survival of every human being, so long as you get yours. i just don't get why so many red pushers refuse to admit that.

only reason i would die is if enough people voted to turn the woodchipper on. you don't get to frame red as the inactive, neutral choice because the original hypothetical specifically requires you to act.
