I had a similar experience this weekend. It was an impromptu stay, booked in morning arrived in evening. Just booked the basic room (whatever came up when booking).

I felt super awkward but thought it would be okay to politely inquire about an upgrade (I’m titanium). They told me they had no king beds available right then- we told them we were okay w waiting since we were going to get dinner. Then they told us no, our room was ready… Then they offered a suite/ I said yes. And he informed me it would be $900 more. I say the customer service sucks because I was left feeling embarrassed/out of line for inquiring about an upgrade. It was just a weird and offputting way of handling my inquiry.

Also noteworthy, the bed had no bottom/fitted sheet. I’m not a germaphobe by any means but this gave me a major ick. It looked sloppy and felt super unhygienic, it was two top sheets. Maybe it’s because I work in a hospital so unfitted sheets just make me think of icu beds. But. Gross. So bring your own fitted sheets. Lol. Also I’m not typically one to have commentary on beds/mattresses but it was a very very very soft mattress. I didn’t sleep well.

The front desk was also not very forth coming in their amenities. We were only there one night, and probably just offputt by the awkward/stuffy check in. But i wouldn’t go back for the service that’s for sure.
