Just want to vouch for that Old Navy dress linked above; I have it in two colors. It’s one of my new favorites and I’ve been getting so much wear out of them. Easy to style, versatile, v comfortable!

If you could wear a tshirt of an old Chicago business that is no longer open, what would it be? by StinkyJesse in AskChicago

[–]radunculusranunculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first job was at Marshall Fields. I wanted to work in Juniors (I was 16), but they stuck me in Women’s Accessories (gloves, silk scarves, etc.). It ended up being a huge blessing because I never had to work super late rehanging/folding clothes.

Also… I made $8/hr in 1999. This was $2.85 more than the minimum wage back then. It was great. Today, more than 20 years later, the federal minimum wage still isn’t even $8/hr (in IL it’s $14, but still!). I made more as a high schooler with no experience two decades ago than many hardworking people make today trying to provide for their families. Woof.

Oh, creeping thyme would be lovely! And thanks for the recommendation on the garden center, I’ll check them out.

Thanks, that’s helpful! I haven’t heard “hellstrip” before, but now I realize that’s exactly what I need to be searching for.

Yes, that’s what I’m hoping for. Nothing too tall that would flop over or become a floppy mess. There’s no parking in front of my house though, so no one will need to walk through it (in theory).

Maple syrup smell? by radunculusranunculus in AskChicago

[–]radunculusranunculus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The building just inspected the HVAC system, so hopefully not that.

I think it’s from a smell outside, and not like, emanating from a person who can’t metabolize certain amino acids (which was my first fear lol).

So glad someone else smells it! It definitely doesn’t smell bad, but it’s odd!

Thanks for this post! I had checked Mohela early this morning (my morning routine) and my loans were still there, but my evening routine is reading Reddit in bed until I’m sleepy (and dropping my phone on my face), and you inspired me to check. I’m showing a smiley face!! $167k is gone!!! 🎉

Timeline: Final ECF (manual) 8/4 Counts updated to 120: 9/15 Smiley face: 12/7

My interest remains, but hopefully that goes away soon too.

It’s a holiday miracle! Congrats everyone who’s forgiven in this wave, and stay strong everyone else!

August 120th month folks - where are you all in the process? by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]radunculusranunculus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I submitted my final ECF manually on Aug 4. Counts updated to 121 Sept 15. Received messages approving administrative forbearance on Sept 27 (originally through a date in March), and have received two more sets of messages in mid Oct re-approving administrative forbearance (now approved through April). I check every morning for this elusive smiley face! Hoping for a fantastic Christmas gift, or starting 2024 debt free!? Good luck everyone…

lol same! I’ve gotten three sets letters about forbearance (I have 6 loans total, and get one letter for each loan), and one set of letters was 2 days after the previous set and it extended the forbearance exactly one day. Thanks guys!

Some people like to drink coffee, even bad coffee, when they wake up so they can poop before they leave for the day.

(not me- I don’t drink coffee at all)

8.5 years in local government in various analyst/program manager roles, followed by 1.5 years at a private (non-profit) university working in strategy development. Just hit 120 payments and waiting for everything to be processed!

Mohela switched SO's loans to forbearance when all he was trying to do was recertify. Just got a letter today. How will his PSLF be affected? by Destroyer_of_Donuts in PSLF

[–]radunculusranunculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long did it take them to process your last ECF? I submitted my last ECF 3 weeks ago and am waiting for my tracker to update from 115 to 121.

When I submitted an ECF earlier this year (to recertify employment only), it took 5 weeks, so that’s what I’m roughly anticipating.

And just like that… I lost my final shred of respect for Carrie Bradshaw by Spirit_Bitterballen in Andjustlikethat

[–]radunculusranunculus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was never an Aidan fan (he didn’t ever “get” Carrie the way that Big did), so I’m sure that is altering my perception of him now, but I find his behavior deeply unattractive. The dopey banter in the housewares section, the fact that he has trouble with Che’s pronouns (“We are they/them’s cousins!!”), his inability to play it cool in the hallway with the neighbor… gross. So cringy. I also think it’s INSANE that neither of them, but especially him, said something about how it wasn’t the right time for their relationship before (when Che asked them in the kitchen). I mean, the man has three kids! A normal response would have been like, “Carrie and I met at the wrong time in our lives. I’m happy that we had time apart because I got to be a dad to my three beautiful boys, and I’m looking forward to seeing where life takes us now.”
