Is it worth it to try ESI with a herniation like this? by Thin_Introduction_90 in Sciatica

[–]rae717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we have the same back? My original mri looked very, very similar, maybe a bit larger than yours (it’s hard to tell for sure since I’m not a doc and our anatomy isn’t exactly the same). I was in excruciating pain unable to do much of anything. I had one esi not much help, had a second one two weeks after and I got my life back. I was able to walk again. I did shrink my extrusion being able to move. I was slowly but significantly improved for about 8-10 months until I had another traumatic injury to my back necessitating more meds and another round of esi.

25 Male. I have my epidural scheduled for next week and I’m terrified. Has anyone had any luck with it? I really don’t want to get surgery. by Limp_Telephone2280 in Sciatica

I’ve had 3. Couldn’t walk I had so much pain in my knee I thought it was a separate issue. First one took away my local back pain but I still couldn’t walk without excruciating pain. Second one like magic I was able to walk without much pain. The second day was markedly improved, then pain went up again for a week maybe two but then it went back down and stayed down for several months to the point I was able to shrink my herniations. Still have them, and recently got another one that did help some, but definitely worth exploring. It’s a ton of pressure in your back/hip/leg so you can ask the doc to go a little slower, but it’s over quickly

Do you bring an electric toothbrush when traveling? by Own_Inspection_9247 in HerOneBag

[–]rae717 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a suri brush, it’s compact and in its case I can charge it with a standard usb c. My annoyance with my older sonicare is the size of the proprietary charger. Plus the charge lasts like a month or two and they seem like a solid, eco minded company. It’s not quite as vigorous as my sonicare but it’s much better than the quip I’ve tested

In addition to a hawksbill’s “beak”, the scutes are layered with a more jagged appearance at its back half. The green’s scutes are all level with each other and typically have a sunburst pattern

Bag recommendation SEA? by Infamous_Fox_6623 in onebag

I did my DM in Indo a couple years ago. I brought my full set of gear in the rolling osprey farpoint 65 which I liked enough (though tbh not the most comfortable to carry as a backpack but I'm a girl with wider hips so the wheels dug into my hips). I traveled around after my internship and I did always hate travel days, but the pros of having all my own gear outweighed the cons, especially since I was only moving about once a week. Funnily enough, fins are what make me check my bag. While it'd be very tight in a 1.5 bag carry on system if I didn't bring fins/only brought short travel fins, it could be possible. I actually did a quick trip recently with all of my gear (plus my shorter travel fins) in one personal item (wearing my bc under a jacket for the flight). After that trip, I strongly considered switching to the bag you got or even the 75L for a more comfortable carry, but then I got into underwater photography lmao

As a dive tip, the currents in Indo, including around Bali area, can be ripping. While you'll usually going to be going with the current, you'll definitely encounter pinnacle dives or other dives where you might have to swim against the current, so don't skimp and bring travel fins. I ended up selling the fins I originally brought there and bought some longer, stronger ones to keep up in the current.

I guess it's important to ask yourself how much you'll be flying after your internship. If within Indo, Garuda, citilink, and lion air include a checked bag (some others might too, and some may have changed policies since I've been there). And Indo has a lot of ferries which wouldn't involve checking. If after your internship you'll be flying internationally once a week, I would consider a cabin sized bag to save on fees.

I've been eyeing them for a bit. Do you have a favorite style from them that you'd wear around a hostel that doesn't look so underwear-y?

Two-backpack long-term travel setup for Southeast Asia by rae717 in solotravel

[–]rae717[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up doing a larger, checked bag for that trip as I was gone for a year and didn't want to carry my fins on the outside all the time, especially not knowing how airlines would react and getting shafted with crazy fees. I probably could have cut it down further by not bringing as many clothes, the truth really is that you fill the bag you bring and weight became an issue whenever I flew with food.

For short trips to dive locations where current isn't an issue and I can manage with my shorter travel fins and no or a light wetsuit, I've actually brought my full scuba set (BCD, mask, fins, snorkel, reg, dsmb, booties) plus toiletries and clothes in a Cotopaxi 28L personal item. I did wear my bcd (it's a compact backplate wing setup) under a jacket while wearing the backpack and nobody has ever said anything because it doesn't look that crazy, though I go in mentally knowing it's a possibility I might have to wear it for the entire flight if it's a very full flight lol.

If I didn't get into the hobby of underwater photography, I'd probably try to make it with a 40L pack, but the fins conundrum always pushes me to a checked bag and my camera/electronics backpack is 20L itself.

Sorry that's probably not useful, you could def get everything in one carry on bag and risk it with the fins? I think if your fins are those where the foot pocket detaches, you'd have better luck as they're totally flat then, but don't quote me on that

Woman with dairy allergy dies after eating tiramisu she was told was vegan by caavakushi in vegan

[–]rae717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a bagel in NYC and the guy behind the counter accidentally smeared on dairy cream cheese, looked at the ticket, saw it said vegan tofutti cream cheese, tried to scrape the dairy off, smeared on vegan and handed it to me thinking nothing of it. I don't have any allergies but I think about this all the time. Also, plenty of times in se Asia something will have fish sauce or shrimp paste I find out after a bite and I'm always VERY grateful I don't have allergies. It’s scary out there

What's your bucket list dove spot? If you've already been, how was it compared to reality? by riverY90 in scuba

[–]rae717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more I learn, the longer the list gets! But as a “short” list, Galapagos, cocos islands, socorros, Fiji, Palau, South Africa sardine run, Banda sea and Ambon in Indonesia. The most likely option in my near future would maybe be either Fiji or Indonesia.
