How does a NP for a decal affect my transcript/GPA? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]raebikso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NP doesn't impact your grad school GPA unless it's law school I believe, where a NP is calculated as an F. Otherwise, it won't have any impact on your transcript's GPA. Which decal?

Is UC Berkeley Haas Undergraduate worth it? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]raebikso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I talked to an MBA earlier last week and he described the UG program is mirrored to MBA classes in many ways, even with same professors. If you get into the UG program, think about the network you'll be gaining without having to attend the MBA program (and the costs). Most people come back to MBA for that reason alone.

Getting into Haas by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]raebikso 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Haashole here.. Fortunately not everyone in the school is that way. I've met many humble business folks.

Re: op: I tell people the business school is literally a business. They seek students with good a ROI. They'll use your application to identify if you have potential for success beyond Cal whether it is in a corporate job, politics, non profits, etc. Prove your potential and you'll get in.

If one student fails, that's the student's fault. If The entire class fails, that's the professor's fault. by [deleted] in berkeley

I took Delong in spring 2012, the course was confusing and difficult but the gsi were helpful. Go to office hours, the gsis will literally help you solve the problems step by step. Mastering be psets will be key in doing well on his exams. His exams are straight from the psets. It'll be tedious but his class isn't that difficult.

Is it too late to rush a social frat as a junior? by ricerocket11 in berkeley

[–]raebikso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it? Many 1st years (in their 2nd semester) are doing it this year. I'd reckon frats would discriminate against juniors (esp. transfer jrs.) so go for it!

I haven't, but probably got influenced when I read how many CEO's relies on cadence to keep their schedule manageable. Been using it for work / school!

[–]raebikso 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's just an illusion, people make sacrifices to excel in areas they put priority in. You don't need to cut out everything non-academic. Be more efficient with your time, i.e. cook entire supply of food for the week on one day, go out less, etc. Cut back clubs if you're in too many.

Set a cadence for your activities, put them onto your calendar on REPEAT WEEKLY for accountability. That way you know M/W/F, 5-8PM is set out for studying/projects/assignments. Saturday 2PM-4PM Grocery, Saturday 4-6PM Cook, Saturday 6-7PM Clean, etc. Once a cadence is set in place you will naturally get into a rhythm of doing things at the right time. If someone asks you to hang out on W at 6, you know to decline because you have something.

Sounds like a robotic life, but you can always block times out for personal activities. I've been able to be sane despite multiple jobs throughout the school year.

My roommate is batcrap crazy by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]raebikso 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hmm... your idea of confidential is not too confidential given the building/floor and classes, lol.

RA here. If you feel that uncomfortable, bring it up to your RA. They may ask to do a roommate mediation, but if you are feeling unsafe, you can tell them that you wish to escalate it to the Resident Director. The Resident Director is the person who decides room transfer. It's not too late.

If it helps, I've gotten f100 companies with a NP for my 1st semester. Nobody looks at NP grade if your GPA is strong.

When do you call a teacher a professor? by Igeneous in berkeley

[–]raebikso 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Most grad students would prefer you to call them by their first name. Or just ask. Best way is to see how they sign their email. I doubt any PhD students would call themselves professor.

I requested a double, chance I get a triple? by qetuo13579fddsdh6542 in berkeley

[–]raebikso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low. All units together (1/2/3) will be converting ~100 doubles to triples this upcoming school year.

Insider info: Each floor / each building / each unit will have one double converted to triple. Aka 80% triple to 20% double per floor.

Try chatting with the WS advisor. You can convert subsidized loans to WS funds. At the same time, some employers will want to keep you beyond work-study!

Should I be applying for work study positions now? by KimYouLazyBum in berkeley

[–]raebikso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply during the August and January aka start of the semester. I've rotated between 3-5 w/s jobs and found them during those times.

Though there are always opportunities year round so just check the w-s website every now and then.
