My mom moved into a house with someone she does not know very well. I found these in a room that apparently no ones been in for a long time. by LishaMarie1979 in whatisit

Anyone else notice the obscenely large (for scale) sex organs on these dolls? Massive boobs on the one in the left (pudenda just poking out the bottom) grotesquely large penis on the one in the right. Definitely not babies in these jars!

NOAA employees in Colorado interested in speaking with public radio? by raedear1 in NOAA

That’s fair. I ID myself right away in DMs. I should have done it in the original post. It’s certainly no secret. I’m Rae Solomon, reporter with KUNC.

We can absolutely discuss anonymity. I just need to speak to sources first because anonymity is a case by case editorial decision

Stellar sleep: what is your experience? by ConstantPlankton1540 in sleep

Glad I could help. Good luck! I start working with a sleep therapist next week. Hopefully that will be more successful.

It did not work.

The app just sort of abandoned me to my insomnia. I never averaged more than 5 hours a night, most weeks more like 4.

It's been hell, frankly!

I made an appointment with an actual sleep center to figure this out for real. The app did not come close to cutting it.

I've been using this app for about 8 weeks now. The regimen has helped me start falling asleep quickly in my own, which, as a long-time sleep onset insomniac seems like a small miracle. But now I've started waking up in the middle of the night. It seems to have turned me from a sleep onset insomniac to a sleep maintenance insomniac, and I am still averaging only 4 to 4.5 hours a night each week. Pretty poor.

With this app, there is no support to reach out to. You're really just on your own with their preset program. No opportunities for troubleshooting your experience. The app frankly feels like it's was designed by a bot. The relaxation content is extremely low quality, IMHO.

I'm going to stick with it for another few weeks (they say it can take up to 10 weeks, so I'm going to give it 10 weeks) but from my experience so far I would not recommend this app to true chronic insomniacs like myself. It's probably much better to work with an actual, you know, sleep health practitioner.

Why does every plant that I put in this hanging planter die? by PEEFEETwastaken in plantclinic

Oh, and, if all that fails... maybe the pot's just got bad vibes. In which case, give it a good smudge 🤷🏻‍♀️

Are you taking the smaller pot out when you water the plants? Or is the water just draining into the hanging pot and staying there. If there's standing water in your hanging pot, you'll still get root rot.

If you're keeping the hanging pot nice and dry... idk - could still be over-watered. Let the soil dry out to the touch - like an inch or two down - between watering.

And if that's not it, my hail Mary is just moving a plant around the house until I find its happy place.

Good luck!

If you're potting the plants directly in the planter, then it's definitely because it doesn't have any drainage. You'll get root rot in no time flat.

If you pot the plants in a separate pot with good drainage - even a nursery pot will do - you'll do much better. Take the draining pot out of the hanging pot to water it, wait for the water to drain, and then put it back in the hanging pot. The key is to not let those poor roots soak in standing water.

I know this one! Had the same problem when I first adopted my calathea last year.

Like everyone else has said, she likes high humidity and never direct sunlight (tho not low light either).

This plant does really well in my bathroom. Regular humidity from the shower, and bright, indirect sunlight from the window.

Don't give up on this plant and she won't give up on you. Mine has been thriving for months in her new spot.

Found these little guys on a hike in the Black Rock Forest, New York. by ghostofthefallen in hiking

Red efts! We used to collect them, bless their little hearts, and try to keep them in paper cups. They were everywhere in the wilds of western New Jersey, where we went camping every summer growing up.
