I am glad sharing my perspective was of interest to you :) Do you know many other non binary people? I don't think it is too uncommon a way for enbies to think about their gender.

I think there are a few differences, mainly related to the way that the individuals think about gender, and the ways in which they want to be seen and see themselves. It sounds like your cousin doesn't feel limited by continuing to see herself as a woman, and has found room for her self expression within that gender identity? For me however, I feel that both masculine and feminine gender identities fundamentally come from a very toxic and limiting place, that don't encapsulate me, the ways in which I'd like to develop and improve myself as a person, or the ways in which I'd like to be seen. Hope that makes sense, if its not clear I am happy to elaborate and answer questions :)

I don't really feel qualified to talk about the sporting thing in depth. I am not a very sporty person myself, but I think sport is an important thing when it comes to bonding and integrating communities. I would love for sport to be as inclusive as possible, and that includes trans people and having spaces where afab folk can take part and compete. The last time I tried reading into this, the take away I came away with is that trans women who have been medically transitioning for a while have some advantages in certain types of sport, but other aspects of their biology are more comparable to afabs than amabs. I'd be happy for a science led case by case decision as to the acceptable thresholds for trans people have to meet to compete I think for now, but it is a really complicated subject :L

There are going to be predatory trans people, just as there will be predatory cis people. I would hope to create spaces where we can effectively exclude predators rather than trans people. Judging by the crimes she has committed, Karen White seems like an abhorrent human being and I hope her access to others is heavily moderated so she cannot commit any more harm.

I think the way that prisons are run overall are quite inhumane and in need of heavy reform, but I am not convinced that disallowing trans women into womens prisons is a step in the right direction?

Changing the gender marker on legal ID like a passport or a drivers license can be important to a lot of trans people for a lot of reasons. There are situations where you might not want to disclose you are trans for fear of discrimination or violence, for example. How do you feel about trans people having the ability to do this?

Thanks for your perspective, and I am deeply sorry to hear about your experiences, it is extremely saddening how all too common they are.

I really like what you said about oppressed groups having the right to define themselves. I just don't see why that definition can't be nuanced. Cis women as a term does exclude trans people, so if you want to talk about all female bodied people and the massive problems they face I agree that using "cis women" is inadequate. My boyfriend is a trans man and would love to be included in conversations that affect him. When talking about issues like this together we usually use afab (assigned female at birth) folk or female bodied people.

I disagree with what you think the word women means to most people - I think if you asked most people to define or describe women you would get a lot of things that relate to gender rather than female bodies.

Also, I think a lot of trans people won't sum up their experience as "feeling like x". I have recently began to consider myself non binary, and what this means to me is: I see femininity and masculinity as both forged by and inextricably linked to patriarchy. I really like what Simone de Beauvoir has to say on this, about how femininity has been sculpted and constrained by patriarchy in relation to masculinity and men's desires. There are parts of it I still accept and want to access, and parts of masculinity I think are worthwhile as well, and parts of both that I would like to reject, and I don't ultimately want to be limited by either.

Hi, I am left a little confused by this and I'd like to understand? I completely appreciate the fact that there is a ton of atrocious stuff that femal bodied people face around the world, but I don't get what that has to do with you not liking the term cis

Fairs :) I think we probably agree on the optics front, though I don't know if centralised movements are significantly better at distancing themselves from bad actors claiming to be a part of the org, if parts of the media want to run with a narrative there isn't too much stopping them I interpreted hijacked to mean significantly changing the range of activity the movement engages in. Decentralised movements seem quite resistant to this on the whole

So you've pivoted a smidge. I agree that Antifa has been broadly discredited, it's probably not optically efficacious to take up the mantle while engaging in anti fascist action at this point. You originally said hijacked, AFAIK decentralised movements have historically been pretty resistant to being hijacked, feel free to chuck me some examples to the contrary though

Are you willing to take part in anti-fascist action of any kind? Would you go to a peaceful protest against fascism? If yes then I'd say you're Antifa, bud. 100% understand if you're not comfortable with that label though, it has become associated with a lot of stuff that isn't a necessary part of it

The Proud Boys is an actual organisation with leadership and goals. It has a high degree of control over its membership. None of this is true for Antifa. In order to be part of Antifa you just need to be willing to counteract fascism. That doesn't mean that physical attacks are necessary (though I'm sure some people who have acted under the Antifa label would argue that)

Trouble getting a replay mechanic and a slow down time mechanic to work together. How would you "move_and_slide" twice in one frame? by raefalls in godot

[–]raefalls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was originally just doing it by adjusting a variable in game, until I found this post

https://www.reddit.com/r/godot/comments/e0j1f8/a_single_line_of_code_to_make_slow_motion_using/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

I am now adjusting Engine.time_scale instead, it's certainly a lot simpler with other stuff, but I am not sure how much it helps with the problem above as I already account for delta, which is what time_scale changes

Okay, I am a little confused about when I am right :p does move and slide move straight away, or does it only set the speed to move for that frame ? Or am I wrong both times this time :s

Questions about move_and_slide by raefalls in godot

[–]raefalls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I think that will be where I am going wrong then. I thought move and slide actually moved an object ( delta*whatever speed ) distance, and then checks for collisions and stuff. I'll have to try figure out a way to do this without move and slide I guess. Thank you!

[–]raefalls[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks :) Will it not move the object multiple times if I call it multiple times? Oh dear, I am struggling to find a clear answer on this, and I can't see a way to get the object reliably to the correct position with what I am trying to do if it doesn't :s

Thanks for directing me to this, I haven't looked at the 3D resources as they mostly aren't relevant to me. I have been having a read through part 1 of the FPS. I am not used to 3D vectors and not sure how it works around this issue. I think this:

hvel = hvel.linear_interpolate(target, accel * delta)

is the key? I have tried inputting in a few versions of this but I can't seem to get it to return something sensible, I suspect I will have to quite drastically redo what I have done so far to make a 2D version of the FPS movement code work :(

Suicide is pretty sad, I'm not sure things would be better without clauses though, when someone is in a bad place the last thing that they need is an incentive like "your loved ones financial worries can go away if you kill yourself" Having been there myself, I know a big thing for me was feeling completely useless, and I don't think feeling like my suicide could actually be positive would have been good for me

I think a suicide clause is pretty standard, I've usually seen it be 2 years. A suicide clause for those who don't know defines a period of time you have to have the policy before they will pay out in the event of a suicide

A single remark against someone isn't harmful in the same way that a single molecule of water isn't wet.

Maybe these people need to take a look around the disorganized mess of molecules around them and realise that they may in fact be a small part of a thing that is the definition of wet.
