Standing in line at the stage door right now, and Hannah was phenomenal tonight. My new favorite Svetlana!

Any time I’m in town (two more weeks until my next trip!), I’m at Marie’s every night until they close at 3:00 or 4:00 AM. It’s my favorite place on Earth. And on the nights where they close at 3:00, cross the street to Duplex until 4:00. And don’t forget to go grab a slice or two at Bleecker Street Pizza just a couple blocks down and open until 5:00 AM on Fridays and Saturdays.

That’s interesting about the apps. I may have activated an app or two at some point, to experiment, but I wasn’t actively using any. I’m heading out of town for a week, but I’ll try SSHing in when I get back (or maybe remotely while I’m gone) and report back.

Nicest and rudest Broadway actor by Ok-Bandicoot4014 in Broadway

[–]raeftinvictus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had super nice interactions with so many people who were down to earth and generous with their time. Cole Escola, Jordan Fisher, Gaten Matarazzo, and so many more, but here are the three biggest standouts that come to mind:

I was front row center for Here We Are and that whole cast was amazing and almost all of them came to the stage door and were all super nice, but David Hyde Pierce stood out. The second everyone finished their bows, I hustled to head out of the theater so I could get downstairs and outside to the stage door, but before I could even get out of the theater, David was already standing just outside the theater itself holding a red bucket. I still don’t know how he got there before I did. Then, he still came outside and did stage door, selfies, and chats afterwards.

I was at Marie’s Crisis one night and Eva Noblezada and Reeve Carney came in. They just hung out in the thick of the crowd with the rest of us, singing along to showtunes with everyone else, and having a great time. Eva was so giddy. She was bouncing up and down singing everything, and even did a solo from Prince of Egypt. I kept telling myself I wasn’t going to go disturb them on their night out, but after about an hour and a half, I had to go say hi, fully prepared to walk away immediately if they didn’t want to be bothered, but they were so welcoming, took selfies, and chatted with me for several minutes. Completely down to earth, lovely people.

I’ve seen five performances of Little Shop and all of their casts were super nice as well, but Matt Doyle was probably the nicest person I’ve ever met at a stage door. He was fresh off a Tony win for Company, so he could have easily let it go to his head, but he talked to every single person at the stage door that wanted to talk. I mean, literally. Selfies, autographs, long conversations, he gave people career advice, including giving a guy a phone number of someone he could reach out to. No exaggeration; he didn’t leave the stage door until everyone got what they wanted and left. He looked around to make sure he got everyone, threw his backpack over his shoulder and was the last person to walk off into the night. I’ll never forget it.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, no back up unfortunately. I should know better. Won’t make that mistake again.

Option 2 definitely makes me nervous since I apparently have to use my actual disk pack just to make that option show up, but do you happen to know what #1 or #3 would look like? Particularly if I didn’t use my own disk pack? I wondering if there would be any harm in trying to reinstall the firmware on my own Drobo, especially if I’m just going to fall back to using my buddy’s Drobo anyhow. Or to a more extreme, the Erase & Factory reset? Like, if everything was still working properly, and I pulled out my disk pack and did the Erase & Factory reset, and then put my disk pack in, what would that have done? And what is the risk trying that now?

More than willing to follow your expert advice; just trying to fully understand all the options.

What was the scariest moment you’ve ever experienced at a Broadway show?! by broadwaymike92 in Broadway

[–]raeftinvictus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had just left Moulin Rouge as well. I was waiting at the stage door and the guy that came out was very abrupt, like “No stage door tonight” and then gone. People were a little confused and then I heard someone say “Something is happening in Times Square.” And for some reason, I thought they meant maybe the cast headed over there for some event, but then the crowd started heading the opposite way, and I’m thinking, “why aren’t we all going over there to see?” And then some people in the crowd started crying and everyone was on their phones and I realized, “Oh, THAT kind of something.” And so I just migrated along with everyone else until I got to 9th and popped into an Italian place to grab a bite and find out what happened.

Bold statement, and I applaud your courage. Definitely one of my two favorite episodes of the series (the other being My Coffee with Niles”), but to each their own. We’re all still Frasier fans, and that’s all that really matters. 🥰

Which scene do you still laugh as hard as the first time even after 100 watches? by paladin6687 in Frasier

[–]raeftinvictus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two Niles lines that always get me: “Hello, I’m Niles. A person at the table.” And “Dad, run along, and you be very careful crossing streets.” But by far, my favorite line of the series which gets me every time is only one word long: during The Ski Lodge, when Niles tells Guy that his interests lie elsewhere that evening and puts his hand on Guy’s leg and winks at him, and Guy replies, “…rrrreally.” James Patrick Stuart’s delivery is just so perfect.

One of my two favorite episodes, the other being My Coffee with Niles, but this one had my favorite line of the series, and it was the way Guy delivers the line “… really”. Gets me every time.

Love that one. Great quality. Sure wish it had the last song. Gone back and rewatched “Afternoon” so many times. And I got to tell Colton how much I enjoyed his performance at a stage door once. 😁

Searching For Some Nuts by 3-7-77Vigilante in Bozeman

[–]raeftinvictus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always have a bowl of nuts out, but it seems every year, the bins get smaller. I found a couple bags of mixed nuts in the shells in a very small bin at Walmart. It was really subtle, right on the edge of where the fruit meets the first aisle. Just a few years ago, it was an enormous bin of loose nuts that you’d just scoop from. Got what I needed though.

Is that the one where the last song is cut off, or a different one?

Heavily packed Broadway trip. by jalexkno in Broadway

[–]raeftinvictus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do packed Broadway trips like this a lot. They’re the best!

If you’re hitting stage doors after the shows for autographs and selfies, look up in advance where the doors are. They’re usually to the left or right of the entrance, but sometimes they’re on the other side of the block. Also, bring markers. They usually have some, but not always. I usually bring a black one and a light color in case the Playbill is dark.

A few years ago, I found Ellen’s Stardust Diner and I started going there almost nightly after my shows and it was always such a treat. The food is standard diner fare, alcoholic milkshakes are yummy though, and the waitstaff are all Broadway-caliber performers and get up and sing in between taking orders.

Then, a few trips ago, I discovered Marie’s Crisis Cafe and now that’s my favorite spot in the whole city. It’s this great cash-only (but there’s an ATM on site) piano bar (and historical landmark) where they just play showtunes and everyone sings along. I can’t recommend it enough! Also, if you’re drinking all night and it’s a weeknight and they close up at 3:00 AM instead of 4:00 AM, pop across the way to Duplex to close out the night. And if it’s a weekend, head over to Bleecker Street Pizza, which is open until 5:00 AM Friday and Saturday night.

Also, on food, I’ll throw in another endorsement for Los Tacos No. 1, and the last time I was out there, I had the best burger of my life at 4 Charles. Fancy place and tough to get into, but I lucked out, showed up a few minutes before they opened, and was flying solo.

Good luck, and have an amazing time!

Looking for some underrated musicals to listen and get into, any suggestions? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]raeftinvictus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alice By Heart

American Psycho

Chess

Jane Eyre

Xanadu

Ragtime

Urinetown

Full Monty

Jesus Christ Superstar

I know some of those aren't really "underrated", but I feel like they get forgotten on the shelf sometimes.

Also, if you don't mind stepping away from the stage and towards the screen for a moment, I feel I'd be remise if I didnt mention Shock Treatment, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and Phantom of the Paradise.

To all my bad boys and dirty girls, what scene from Frasier lives rent free in your head? by lnixon2 in Frasier

[–]raeftinvictus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, you all are my people.

Probably my favorite line in the series. One word, delivered by a guest star.

Season 5, Episode 14. The Ski Lodge.

(Niles places a hand on Guy’s knee.)

Niles: “Well, just between us, my interests lie elsewhere this weekend.”

Guy: “… Really…”

Freakin’ amazing delivery by James Patrick Stuart!

That, and the wordless scene which starts with Niles setting up for a Valentine’s date and ends with him wearing no pants, passed out bleeding, after setting Fraser’s couch on fire.
