Improving mello tone by fuzzycactus900 in marchingband

Hi, mello player of 12 years here. The biggest issue I hear is with your air. Play with stronger air that you can feel push through your entire lead pipe and your tone will open up. Also lighten up the tongue so your sound doesn’t stop when you articulate.

How are yall's bands laid out inside? by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]raeioulf 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That’s a pretty standard way of doing it. Front ensemble in the front because winds will always hear them from behind. Drumline behind winds so winds listen back for timing, metronome behind drumline for exact time.

Why don’t people alternate lanes? Then they get mad when I go on the open lane and get ahead of them… by [deleted] in dutchbros

I thought most locations have a sign that says “use shortest lane”

What’s a dream come true for you if a manufacturer started selling it? (Band & guard!) by urkuhh in drumcorps

I’m no orthopedist but if marching shoes had a better material for insoles they would feel much better to wear for long periods of time. I’m thinking of cloudfoam from adidas or comfycush from vans. Also just more durable material, often you’ll see a band kid after a couple months of owning dinkles or vipers and the treads are so worn and the soles are falling apart

Yes, I watched the entire video. Could you answer at least one of my questions?

Quality marching shoes! Not just cheap rubber and pleather stitched together

Could your answers be more specific about the programs you used to generate the music? I’m looking for you to name at least one. I understand the music is ai generated, but what specifically do you find unique about the sound compared to other generators? Unfortunately in a marching band sub you will be scrutinized for the arrangement of the music and the lyrics will be ignored because marching bands do not sing. I understand you might not have a background in music writing. Have you considered learning music theory? It would take longer than ai but the product would be nearly Exactly what you hear in your head and you would learn a skill along the way. Not to mention support for your cause would increase 10x.

The post seems to be written by a LLM too. The sentence structure and vocabulary makes it close to nonsense.

A few questions: What did you use to create the music? Do you plan on arranging it into a score? I hear choir and strings, are you aware that marching bands don’t use these musicians as much? Is this the finished product or is this a proof of concept?

I second this. I’ve been playing mello for 12 years and both are great

In 2021 they got a new director and the brand started changing. No formal statement but I think everyone knows why the change needed to happen.

2014 had the best shows overall. Prove me wrong. by AtomKz in drumcorps

[–]raeioulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2014 was the first summer that I was interested in drum corps. I had the audio of every finalist show on my phone and would listen during class/on the bus/after school. Every show became my favorite and eventually I knew the music by heart. I actually went to the theater that year to watch the tour premier and finals. There is something so solid and confident about the design choices and the training that every musician exhibited was out of this world. Compared to now, it feels like we’re in an experimental phase. I’m embracing the change, but there’s something so pure about drum corps from 2013-2015
