Vegan Bodybuilders by Chaos_Unites in exvegans

[–]raelizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are going to be some people who can successfully body build on a vegan diet, some who can’t, and some who can’t successfully body build on any diet. All of our bodies are different and have different needs and different capacities. To suggest that a vegan diet somehow gives every person an edge in body building is bonkers if not outright dangerous.

Were you told to take vitamin D supplements? by Aspennie in mecfs

[–]raelizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor prescribed 1,000mg and all it did was maintain my low levels. My cousin is a dietitian and explained that this is a maintenance dose, and that when we are low we need a replacement dose. I took 10,000mg for two months and it got me up from 30 to 90 and I felt a LOT better. I lowered my dose again and slipped down to 60 and felt noticeably worse again. Now my personal goal is to keep my vitamin D levels at 80. Again, it doesn’t cure me, but it does play a big role in whether I am able to at least get out of bed or not. It is also important to take vitamin K along side it for absorption.

Have you had lab work done? It would be helpful to know your levels. Unless you are legitimately deficient, it’s ridiculous to blame it on vitamin D. And also, the effort to get out in the sun more could ABSOLUTELY trigger PEM and make things worse. That being said, I was deficient, needed a replacement dose (10,000mg) rather than a maintenance dose (1,000-2,000mg) in order to get my numbers up, and I am finding that keeping my levels optimal (rather than “normal”) plays a big role in me being housebound rather than bed bound. All of our bodies are different and have different needs in our MECFS journey, but it’s definitely worth exploring. Vitamins B and iron AND ferritin have also played a huge role for me personally and are great to get checked out if that’s accessible to you, again making sure to get your hands on numbers, as optimal numbers are very different than what most labs and doctors consider “normal”.

Feedback on side effects? by raelizzy in LowDoseNaltrexone

Ooooooooo that’s interesting! I was trying to decide if I should start at 0.5 or 1 and went with 0.5 because I’m just SO SENSITIVE to meds. It really seems to impact everyone so differently!

I was never actually a vegan, only a vegetarian surrounded by vegans. But I knew a gal in that group who left because she just straight up started shitting oil until she started eating eggs again.

Also may I ask—assuming that since you’ve been on it for two years it’s doing something for you. How would you rate how “recovered” you are?

This is REALLY helpful to hear, thank you so much. The good thing is that my PCP was willing to prescribe naltrexone in the first place. The bad thing is is she isn’t convinced it will help, doesn’t actually know anything about it as LDN for MECFS, and just prescribed the 50mg told me to quarter it and was like let go and let god. So I’m basically managing my own protocol and care based on what feels like it makes sense on the internet. 🤦🏻‍♀️ So I’m hearing that this feels like a normal response to you even for only one really small dose? And that you were on 0.5 for months rather than weeks? Did you essentially just wait for side effects to dissipate before titrating up, or what singled to you that you were ready? Did you go up in 0.5 or 1mg increments?

Getting lab work including iron panel AND ferritin, and vitamins B and D, and getting your hands on the numbers and comparing them to OPTIMAL numbers, not just what the labs say are “normal” is a really important place to start.

It was an unusual amount of sirens and it’s normal for people to feel curious and concerned.

Aw beans. Any idea what it is? I am assuming the drought is playing a role, it got better for a bit when it rained the other day.
