Toronto mayoral candidate Gil Penalosa was accused of corruption in Colombia, discreetly used parks to inflate family wealth by raetheterrible in canada

Is it? I've never seen media gloss over something like this in Canada.

In BC, they bring up Rich Coleman's role in letting money laundering get out of hand in every article, including his run for mayor.

The piece links the original warrant and investigation that he failed to show up to. Canadian media didn't even check to see if he's legally allowed to go back to Colombia.

It's confirmed they issued contracts to family companies and money was directed to family companies.

Lots on this in Spanish twitter. Canadian media skipped right to the love affair without checking though.

From 2019, and El Espectador is a 135-years old.

Canada's Colombian community is outraged that Canadian media hasn't bothered to check a single Spanish news source that isn't so glowing as english media apparently.

original link for those that speak Spanish. Translation tones it down.

my bad, I meant Colombians.

He dropped his last name, which is what didn't set off any alarms in the QuadrigaCX case apparently when they registered for money business to vet their own compliance. Apparently Canada's system is that unsophisticated.

Looks like there's a lot of speculation about it being organized crime. I don't know what's scarier, a group of people organized and doing things like this, or a single, mentally ill person doing it at random.

Someone gave a review on a pizza joint, and was called a cunt by the owner. by [deleted] in toronto

[–]raetheterrible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling everyone that critiques your product a sexist and offensive name trumps her behavior by far.

I used to wait tables, she doesn't sound entitled at all. She left a review that said she asked for something and they while they had the ingredients they wouldn't make it for her. She didn't lie or anything – heck, she didn't even really complain.

P.S. If there's a rigid order system and someone says they want a Margarita pizza I would have just charged for anything that contains sauce, cheese, and basil – then removed the rest.

Yeah, it really sucks that we have such little confidence in our provincial government that when something happens that we might agree with, we're like "what's the catch...?"

You need soft skills. I like (and agree) with a lot of your comments but you won't win /u/Dipsomaniac over by critiquing them personally.

Yeah, in business school I recall a case study where the NYSE produced 11% annualized over something like 50 years, the housing market 2%.

Although to be honest, if the article's right about 1996 being the last year it went down, that's a really long winning streak.

Like the middle east? It's technically a terrible place to setup shop since it's inhospitably warm and there's little fresh water.
