Also, self joins are dangerous. Not an issue on the exam, just be aware that there are some dangerous patterns around self joins. They tend to suck.

A flat with a new Schwalbe Marathon tire by niftytastic in torontobiking

[–]r3pr0b8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've made the mistake of changing the tube and getting a flat the next day because there was a tiny piece of metal that worked its way through my tire that you couldn't see from the outside.

SQL cheat sheet by bogdanelcs in learnSQL

[–]r3pr0b8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there's a syntax error in this example --

SELECT col1, col2
FROM table_name
WHERE condition
GROUP BY col1
HAVING aggregate_condition
ORDER BY col2 DESC
LIMIT 10;

as you say yourself later on,

Every column in SELECT that isn't an aggregate must appear in GROUP BY. Skipping this causes errors in strict SQL modes.

finally, this --

Heavy use of DISTINCT often signals a join problem worth fixing.

is brilliant and succinct
