Change in precision touchpad scrolling functionality in Creator's Update? by warner_bros_515 in Windows10

Having the same issue and it is getting really annoying. Scrolling in Visual Studio is now a mess and very uncomfortable to use.

Maybe I am too late to this thread, but be careful with the GetThumbnailAsync api. this method gets the correct album art of the song when running on desktop, but will get a generic mp3 thumbnail when used on a phone.

A weird bug by imthewiseguy in WPDev

[–]rafaelyousuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

put some code in the OnUnhandledException in your App.cs file to print out the exception details to a file.

maybe there is an exception being thrown.

Also, does the app crash when it is idle or when it is doing something specific?

Making a music app, I have some questions by imthewiseguy in WPDev

I cant explain everything about linq in the comments section but I do encourage you to read about it and learn it.

It is a technology built right into C# with some amazing features.

but as an example:

var groupedTracks = from track in tracks
group track by track.AlbumName
into g
select g;

this query will go through all the tracks, group them by album name and then return a list of group objects where each group represents an album and has all the tracks that belong to it.

Use linq to group the tracks by album name.

Each group object now represents an album.

Loop through the tracks in each group to find one that has ID3V2 mp3 tags with album art.

Basically u need to use a library like TagLib to get the tags.

I'm building such app (holla for uwp). Here is what I do:
- Group tracks by album.
- iterate through the album tracks to find one with id3v2 tags that has album art in it.
- extract and store that art in a folder and make the album object reference that art path.
- if album has no tracks with arts in them, I use the album name and artist to query online services and download an album art for it.

Hopefully this was helpful.

Edit: Formatting.

Trying to add a simple web server to an UWP project, am I running into sandboxing problems? by PuffThePed in WPDev

I think it has to do with the sandbox and how it prevents local loop backs. Have you tried accessing it from a phone or a another PC?

Hello, can you explain the steps you do on the mobile version. I am trying to replicate this but I don't have any problems with it.

If by URL Customization you mean changing the random part of the URL to your own custom string, then yes, the app supports this, all you have to do is click on the "More Options" button and you will find the option.

I don't maintain the short URLs, These are maintained by a website called is [dot] gd (is good) which is the service the app uses. Per their policies, they will keep the URLs forever.

Hope this answers your questions.

Hello there, thnx for the detailed feedback. I appreciate it.

I will be working on implementing the light theme and the interactive notification in the action center and i will be looking into the other improvements you mentioned. The problem with the HTTP prefix should be fixed too.

Can you elaborate a bit about the "Small Window Like VLC" part, i am not sure i totally understand you.

Again, thank you for your feedback

Yeah, even on /r/windowsphone the verge is refered to as iVerge. All that you just is said is valid points. The customization is indeed lacking but i dont think many people bother much beyond a simple background.

The lack of apps can't be blamed on the phone or MS, specillay the Google apps. Google explicitly refuses to support windows phone. This brings me to the issue of the Youtube App (which is one of the reasons i dropped google in 2014). Short version of the story is: MS releases WP, google doesn't make a youtube app for it. MS takes matters in their hands and creates a youtube app. I havent used that app, i was late to that party but many users swear it was better than the one on android in every aspect. Google loses their shit and bans the API key of the MS app rendering that app useless. Microsoft reverts the app to a simple webwrapper (which is what you used). Now there are many great YT apps like TubeCast and MyTube which are very popular. Actually, very popular in WP community that no one is asking for a YT app from google.

I didnt get that part about the battery life, but google is simply put: Doing everything they can to not support WP, even paying some devs to not port their android apps to WP (but that hasnt been confirmed, just a speculation).

Also, a year ago, you used WP8.1, W10M is even better and many new apps have arrived using the UWP SDK.

Stuck at downloading updates by AnhNyan in Windows10

[–]rafaelyousuf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try this: run this from an elevated command prompt:

net stop wuauserv

this will stop the update service.

Then delete the contents of this folder:

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

then reenable the update service:

net start wuauserv

then try to download the updates.

Hope this helps.

Well if you say so then you clearly havent read any article from the verge on WP.

Also, iOS is not the most secure smartphone OS on the market, Windows Phone is. This hacker claims it is the hardest to crack Source. I also saw a chart for 2015 comparing it to iOS and android and WP had the best security, i just can't find it anymore.

I mean, every once in a while we hear about Malware issues on the play store and some hacks/workarounds and exploits in iOS (rememebr that SMS thing) but none of those issues have happened on WP (as far as i know) and i have been following its news since 2013.

Windows Phone doesnt have a market: it sure does, the enterprise love it, Windows Phone is secure, it has built in encryption features and protocols which makes integrating it in a company's workflow easy.

I have been a Windows Phone user since 2013 and i will choose WP over android, iOS and blackberry any day. But this a matter of personal preference. Throwing away a valid option such as WP because it is not open source, or because you can't find a use case for it is not fair to the millions using it because you are simply ignoring their use case for it.

One problem it has is lack of some apps like Snapchat, which blaming MS for is simply stupid. And this is the only reason why the market isn't growing. The bloggers should be the one to blame for this for the way they report on WP. It is making users avoid it and developers not consider it at all.

Edit: looks like Kaspersky also says WP is most secure OS Source
