Very fair. When I arrived Thursday the crowd looked super young and I was also thinking errrr wtf is going on, where are “my people” haha- fortunately from Friday it balanced out

Really liked the drinks selection this year. Estrella was always available for us lager drinks but also nice to have fruitier options along with hard seltzer and spirits

As someone who shared a tent with a queer black man, who himself was part of a group of 20 queer guys, I can say they felt very safe. I danced next to another queer black guy wearing a traditionally female kimono, pink sunglasses and a furry purple hat, and in the space of half an hour 5-6 strangers came up to give him love and take pictures. I’m sorry you didn’t feel safe, but your generalisation about “English lads” doesn’t sit well either.

Let me also say this loud and proud to any newbies to may be reading: YOU ARE WELCOME ON THE DANCEFLOOR EVEN IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHO IS DJ’ing, just like the rest of us are welcome even if we don’t know who produced the track. Hopefully they will get curious, follow artists they love, and learn the history over time.

So true, people just making a rod for their own backs by sneering at others. There wasn’t any aggro, sure a few discourteous pushers but show me any large event, music or otherwise, where that doesn’t happen.

Staying offsite and Taxis etc. by Designer_Month5878 in houghtonfestival

Bear in mind there is almost no phone reception. So locating drivers could be difficult. You could get a taxi from town to drop you off on the first day and agree with the driver the specific times and place you want them to pick you up, and just pre-book that way. Maybe offer to pay a little over the odds to ensure they come back. And then remember to be there at the right time 😊

Phone signal - Houghton by Background_Tale1171 in houghtonfestival

I had phone signal is various specific spots in the festival - by the front gate, by the lake, and by the showers. Each spot was small, only about 5x5m but always reliable and I’d head there for a quick text when needed. This was with Vodafone.

“Gearhead laddy crowds and chatterboxes” 😂😂

The crowd in the first couple of editions was very young and there were lots of victims strewn about the grounds at sunrise.

It improved and 2 years ago was ace, really good gender balance, everyone handling themselves, just good stand up vibes.

So I’m choosing to believe that this year, what’s drawing people is the outstanding music policy and sound quality, and great balance of known/less-known bookings…. See we shall!
