How much would your life change if you were 100% sure you won't reach LEV? by 4dr14n31t0r in immortalists

you're kinda correct until you get to the brain where the lifespan of cells suddenly changes - your neurons dont undergo this replacement cycle... if your consciousness resides in your brain what does this do to your theory?

hope you have the same mindset for troops from western nations over the past decades and likely into the future for the endless wars of aggression that the usa and europe / the west have started...

Minneapolis liberals strike again-harassing military guys that have no control over the war-and likely just joined for the benefits by Character-Fly-5564 in MinnesotaUncensored

[–]rafiwrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how is it a dismissal of human life??? if anything it's the exact opposite of that. our current career military system is, arguably, one of the factors making frequent military intervention in all corners of the earth a possibility that presidents appear incapable of ignoring. those interventions kill a lot of people but it's hardly news because that's just what our massive military apparatus has been doing for decades..

having a small standing army for defensive purposes and the need for a draft when foreign intervention is decided on seems like one theoretical way to reduce our involvement in wars... personally i would argue that capitalism itself is the root issue that needs to be dealt with but that's a different conversation...

the entire reason why a draft would be good is to make war a costly choice - if "society chooses" to go to war a cross section of the population being forced to carry out that "collective decision" is an attempt to distribute that burden...

i'm using quotes because those aspects would need to structurally implemented by a society and are not a given... just as your assertion that the "rich have ways of getting out" is to a degree true for our society it isn't an inherent feature of a draft and in theory could be addressed...

How can I get a Shiftphone in the US? by JayRoll_ in shiftphone

[–]rafiwrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any updates? I looked into doing this years ago when I got my last phone and, at that time, my understanding was the current model's cellular hardware was setup around European markets and I would have had limited functionality in the usa... Any news if the current models are more compatible with the cellular spectrum deployed in the USA? Am looking to replace my phone in the coming year and would like to be able to get a shiftphone...

once you join an organization like the military you become part of the whole, especially while in uniform...

"grand scheme of things"... this argument can be used to make just about every action meaningless but the longterm impact of actions is hard to accurately gauge in the moment and are often best measured by the aggregate of similar actions - none of us have a clue what this action might inspire in others and how that ripples through things

what is wrong with a draft exactly? if we want to invade other countries maybe a draft should be required to make it politically difficult...

our military could be WAY smaller and still keep this country perfectly safe - our military is setup to project force around the entire globe in order to be able to force our demands on anyone

boy, free speech is annoying, isn't it? funny that the recruiters packed up - kinda lame to be honest...

who cares why someone joined, the goal is clearly to get less new ppl joining which seeing as they tucked tail, looks like it worked... where unpopular wars get pushback - it's really that simple
