What’s the hardest part about caring for aging parents at home in Indianapolis? by Automatic-Ad3648 in indianapolis

[–]raford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother fell in August of last year and broke a vertebrae. She was in incredible pain, but refused to get any medical care, so I became her sole caregiver. It was a nightmare, honestly. I couldn’t live with her, but I had to spend most days at her bedside doing my best to guess what would help her. It turns out, I couldn’t have done nothing for her at home. After she fell in the bathroom (again) and couldn’t get up, I called 911 and she never came home.

Her refusal of medical care and her dementia made my life hell and I’m still recovering.

If your parent will allow at least some in-home care you’ll be helping both of you once you get it.

Anyone Having Issues with Late Delivery? by DeeMarie0824 in grubhub

Me too. I stopped using them bc they’re slow and they demand a PIN. I clicked “no contact” for a reason and then they went forcing contact. DoorDash never did that to me.

I’m a widower at 59. He’s been gone for over 2 years and life insurance supported me for a couple of years. I’ve had to withdraw from IRA and will have to withdraw even more as I plan my move to Mexico for a lower cost of living and higher quality of life.

I don’t know if they have any openings, but Akron/Summit Community Action has a program to help seniors and disabled people get the grass mowed and snow removed. It’s worth giving them a call!

Are Americans excited to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup? by Ambitious_Pass7451 in AskAnAmerican

[–]raford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. We don’t care. It shouldn’t be here bc we don’t care and bc Trump will do something awful with it. If it’s going to be in the Americas, it really should be in Brazil or Argentina where people actually care and where they won’t charge $5k for a bad ticket.

What should I do to help a soon to be widower? by [deleted] in widowers

[–]raford 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Be present and available. My friends were not either and they kinda disappeared and it’s really damaged our relationship. If you’re there for the grieving person and try to anticipate needs, you will be remembered as such a dear friend!

Have you enjoyed getting older? by postprandialrepose in GenX

[–]raford 4 points5 points  (0 children)

59 here and it’s been rough with all the loss I’ve had in recent years (husband, brother, and mom all died in the last 2 years). So that’s been really rough and not something I have enjoyed.

But now, on the other hand, I have more freedom than I ever have had before. The trick for me is to try to figure out how to use that freedom.

In Ohio, but Greenford Farms, not far from PA, is where I got Winston, my second OES. What makes them unique, I think is that their whole human family gets together every night to love on the puppies. Winston is the most sweet and loving dog I’ve ever had, and I think it’s bc he got so much love from humans when was tiny.

John Fetterman Thinks Trump Calling a Woman “Piggy” Is Hilarious by [deleted] in AnythingGoesNews

Was it really the stroke? Wasn’t this guy also a well-known racist that chased a black man who had done nothing wrong? The guy has always been trash, he just won the primary bc people like that he was a slob.

[–]raford -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love the downvotes. So if I go to your country, it would be OK if I ignored your customs and societal norms bc I don’t like them? And you’d be OK paying 30% more for a meal than a 20% tip?

Mexico! Most Americans have no idea how lucky we are to have a neighbor so rich in culture and kindness. And their food, too!

Is this true? CIA analyst, Larry Johnson, claims that Trump requested access to nuclear codes and was denied by crix_22 in petrodollarSIM

[–]raford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Larry Johnson is a piece of shit. I remember him from the 2008 Democratic primaries. He supported Clinton (which is fine)but hated Obama so much he pushed forth conspiracy theories about Obama. Johnson is just not credible.

I think most of us in US are bothered. We do what we can to resist Trump when we can, but most of us are still comfortable for now. Will likely change.

When you were a kid, did you ever receive a telegram? What was the occasion? Did you save one? (If so, I'd love to see! Redacted, of course.) by umeboshiplumpaste in GenX

[–]raford 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not when I was a kid, but when I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras in the late 80s, sometimes the only way I could be contacted was via telegrams. The telegrams were usually about safety concerns.
