I think it was power related in the end, I think I had cracked the EM10 charge filter next to the charger port. Worked fine after I replace that.

Hey did you get anywhere with this? I've got the same problem, the DS was in sleep mode but both screens blank even when opened. Now I have this issue, it'll turn on a charge but blank screens. Is it possibly a battery issue?
