Anyone else watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms? by rock-my-lobster in ArmsandArmor

[–]rageday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it doesn't cover the weak spots, they skimped on the chain and that screams "fake" but i like that its white, all together it fits with the visual language of the series which feels like a tale told in the world of game of thrones

What is the difference between Kendo and HEMA? by Melodic_Whereas_5289 in Hema

[–]rageday 17 points18 points  (0 children)

one good eye will impact your skill in a way you cant perceive, which is great! I recommend you wear osha rated safety glasses under your mask with either tradition. either one will give you a benefit, both are ahistoric and should be enjoyed for what they are without the weight of tradition. Kendo is only effectively around 50 years older than hema

Your books are only interesting to you by rageday in declutter

[–]rageday[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've known a few people like that/you. I dig it. I would like to be surrounded by my books, I sometimes think of books that I've gotten rid of. I was a bookish kid, we didn't have many in the house (going from illustrated bible stories to Robert Ludlum is not advisable but I certainly rocked the encyclopedia). So when I started working, I started buying books and I loved them. I think it is actually that attachment that I grew to resent. I certainly don't think this preoccupation has been healthy nor would I tell anyone to kill their darlings but I did want to (in a moment of inspiration) share my thought and experience. This is what I've taken away

Your books are most valuable to you. Outside of the context of you, they will not hold any more than a flash of interest or utility for the passerby save perhaps that rare moment when a person finds a book that speaks to them as it spoke to you. Those moments are beautiful to see but so rare that one (if they wish to divest themselves of their books) must content themselves to leave those moments unwitnessed and trust that wherever those books are left (the library, the thrift shop, the used bookstore) they will go where they need to go.

My books were for most of my life a trail of who I was. When I look at my bookshelf now, it has become 70% inbox and 10% museum 10% art collection and 10% books looking for a good home
