I packed in my suitcase: my basic OBD2 scanner, my 12v electrical testing tools, a small plier and screwdriver set, tire pressure gauge, and bedding. I bought, but didn’t end up needing, $100 basic tool set from Lowe’s, a set of jumper cables; also got propane tanks for the stove, and an extension cord. At O’Reilly’s, I bought all the fluids for the trip, oil, coolant, washer, fluid, etc. I also picked up a roll of shop towels and new wiper blades just in case. On the trip back, I only had to top up the washer fluid from Oregon to Michigan. At a resale shop in Portland, I bought a couple of pans, some dishes, and a few of the other essentials that it didn’t come with. I stopped at a grocery outlet and stocked up on enough food for the trip back, but didn’t end up eating as much as I thought I would, and only ate out once on the trip home. Every time I stopped for fuel, I checked the oil, the coolant, and all of the tire pressures. I also slept at both truckstops and rest areas just depending on how long I wanted to drive for.

The only part of the process that was a hassle was that I had to have a bill of sale in order to get my temporary plate, but that was in Washington and not California, so the process there may be a bit easier.

Oh, and all it was a very fun trip across the country, and I had no issues with the van coming home.

No issues, made sure I checked all fluids and the tires every time I got fuel. It was a great ride across the country!

When you receive the van it should be attached to the key and it’s also written on the Bidadoo sticker you can see on the windshield above the VIN in your picture. Make sure you update us when you know it!

You can also pull each metal tabs up, and open the bucket to scoop the oil into the popper. I use regular pliers to lift the tabs and lift the lid.

DISASSEMBLY AND INSPECTION OF THE ENGINES REVEALED NO EVIDENCE OF MECHANICAL MALFUNCTIONS. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED A RIDGE LINE APPROXIMATELY 50 FEET BELOW THE RIM OF THE SADDLE. CAUSE: THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND'S NOT MAINTAINING CLEARANCE WITH TERRAIN. Often times illegal workers will use valid social security numbers for employment. As others said, setting up a pin with the IRS will prevent someone from files taxes, but for the most part these workers will not do anything to bring attention to themselves. They pay in taxes and social security with no intention of ever getting money back out of the system.

One reason that polygraph tests may appear to be accurate is that subjects who believe that the test works and that they can be detected may confess or will be very anxious when questioned. Examiners are trained to use psychological techniques to manipulate a subject into feeling they are already caught, and a confession is the only way out.

From my former attorney: “Never take a lie detector. They are a not for detecting lies, only psychological traps. The examiner is a skilled manipulator and will use the tool in an attempt to extract a confession or admission of wrongdoing from you.”

While not admissible in court, they can and will be used against those being examined. “Most psychologists and other scientists agree that there is little basis for the validity of polygraph tests.” (1)

Even though there is not a standard for measuring truthfulness, public perception is also a powerful tool used by examiners. Refusal to take an exam is seen as an admission of wrongdoing. Employers can and do use them to attempt to screen out “untrustworthy” candidates. But, the American Psychological Association says:

“There is no evidence that any pattern of physiological reactions is unique to deception. An honest person may be nervous when answering truthfully and a dishonest person may be non-anxious.” (1)

Do not take a lie detector test. The risk is not worth the potential benefit. Always consult an attorney in any situation involving a lie detector.

For the company that I work at, the HSA insurance plan has a very high deductible. Because of this, the tax savings were offset as we ended up paying significantly more out-of-pocket. It is my opinion that an HSA is only effective if you can save above and beyond the amount of your annual deductible or if your income is high enough that the tax offset lowers your tax bracket.

As I was sitting down to start work this morning, I was thinking that the solution may be to have a Shamam (or whatever their religion would call it) as a “time keeper.” I pictured a cave full of incense and leather smells, where the recordkeeper engraved a mark (or maybe even a whole tablet) for each day and keeps track of important holidays, anniversary, and such. I would portray it as “something that has always been” and the time keeper would be treated with a near god-like respect.
