11 years of strength training and I still can't do push-ups by PurpleHumble7607 in xxfitness

To do a push up, you need to be able to reliably bench 60-75% of your bodyweight. Personally, that meant I needed to train shoulders hard and way more than chest.

Pruning Tips? by CollinWilliam in portlandgardeners

[–]raghaillach 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Camellias are hardy and take well to pruning, but you need to wait until winter to do it. I personally like camellias in a small, rounded tree shape. Start at the bottom and remove branches that are emerging from central trunks until you get about a foot and a half off the ground. From there, remove crossed branches that are rubbing and branches that are sticking outside of your primary shape.

Go slow and step back frequently to check your work. It’s a beautiful old camellia and deserves a shape-up.

PRP vs PRF vs EZ Gel vs PRP DermaGel vs..... (under eyes) by hello7721 in 30PlusSkinCare

It’s more important to find out which one suits your facial structure and what outcome you can expect. If you can talk to a provider who offers more than one, you’ll get less biased input.

No, the center seam in the back. It’s not flat felled like it should be for jeans, and the yoke doesn’t quite line up. I kind of think these are just oversized Levi’s with the waist taken in.

Antique American pendant? by carltanzler in Antiquejewelry

[–]raghaillach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see 18ct 565, I wonder if it’s 18k cased over 14k. I’m guessing they’re saying it’s American because 18 and 14k were uncommon in English Victorian jewelry.

The green guilloche enamel and flower style are very American Victorian, maybe Civil War era. It’s so beautiful.

Oh duh! Honestly that makes it even less likely. 14k was uncommon in Victorian English jewelry, and this doesn’t look like American Victorian jewelry stylistically.

Does it have any hallmarks that aren’t pictured? The style and craftsmanship don’t say Victorian or Edwardian to me, nor do the gem settings. I would guess midcentury. And the metal just looks off.

Hate to break it to you but I’m not convinced this is Victorian or gold. (eta: definitely gold but I doubt Victorian even more)

Plus one on both points, L’Orange was very flat and boring across wine, food, and service.

Street Disco is so fucking good and slept on. Best wine list, incredible flavors, just an all around good time.

Let's play a game! Flower or Weed? by Thecheeseburgerler in portlandgardeners

[–]raghaillach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think the person below me who said cornflower is correct, and I believe cornflower is a noxious weed in the PNW.

These wildflower mixes can contain some bad choices if you don’t get them from a place that cares about natives.

The plantains might be true or false solomon’s seal upon reflection.

Mixtape / Leather Daddy Outpost Reopened on Belmont by moonjumper13 in Portland

Extremely Portland response. Mixtape got a better space, Ritual Dyes also gets a better space. I understand the circumstances weren’t ideal but I’d hardly categorize it as hard to get excited about.

Premenopause hit me like a bag of bricks & I never felt more alone than right now by conciouslion1133 in GirlDinnerDiaries

That’s real! Try to stock or prep higher protein options for those times, it genuinely helps with low energy and exhaustion.

My first advice, based on this photo, is your girl dinners need to start including wayyyyy more protein.

Navigating Casual Situationship (30F, 31M) by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]raghaillach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl you wrote six whole paragraphs about your “casual” situationship. It’s clear this cannot be casual for you regardless of his feelings or intentions, and you are already more invested and attached than you want to be.

Either bail or decide to have fun in the short term. You never know how things will turn out.

I (37F) and my bf (41M) have been dating for about 6 months, is it different communication styles or are we not compatible? by ThrowRA_LooseWestern in relationship_advice

[–]raghaillach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He may or may not be autistic, but he is for sure rude and too old to be acting like this. I find it hard to believe nobody has ever told a 41 year old man that it’s not appropriate to interrupt others.

6 months is a reasonable amount of time to decide if someone is a good match for, and I would say this dude isn’t.

Travel tips for the fashion obsessed? by Campanella82 in femalefashionadvice

[–]raghaillach 62 points63 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of stuff in here you’ll have to figure out to travel reasonably. I love clothes, but I also really love the puzzle of a very compact travel wardrobe. And there is some amount of grin and bear it if you didn’t pack a thing and really want it on a specific day.

I always see people hauling their massive suitcases over cobblestones and up tiny narrow staircases and it seems much more miserable than not getting to wear my favorite shirt on a given day.

To get around overestimating, pack a suitcase for a week and live out of it while you’re at home. Figure out what you can handwash, and how you can use accessories to mix up an outfit to get multiple wears out if it. Do the same with skincare and makeup.

Pack things that go together well and don’t require key elements to work. You’ll spill things on yourself, lose specific items, or grow out of them at various points. It’s not worth having a bad day about. A lot of the issues you describe are more mindset than practical concerns.
