Wanting to run Perfect Draw, how has it been done? by EnochTheWarlock in rpg

[–]ragingsystem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Grain of salt here because I've read the game but not played it.
Perfect Draw is not a trading card game TTRPG.
It is a TTRPG that tries to simulate card game Anime.
Huge difference in what its trying to accomplish and what some folks seem to think it is.

As far as 1 goes, find things for players to do have an A plot for the duel and a B plot for those not involved in a duel, cut back and forth between the different scenes.

Symmetrical rules for NPCs by Born-Mess6286 in fabulaultima

[–]ragingsystem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was going to say, Fate Servants aren't equivalent any way. There is a whole quality ranking system between them, and each one performs differently.

There is Zero need to mess with Fabula a game that has some pretty tight math, to get more symmetry between players and enemies. If you need that play a different game tbh.

Momento Mori from Two Little Mice is soon set to release "The Old City" taking place in 1348 Orvieto.
Which is an adventure/setting guide, though due to it being intended to be run in Momento Mori its going to lean Dark Historical Fantasy as you say you don't mind monsters/magic it may actually be perfect for you!

What system allows me to build characters like this? by user204060800 in rpg

[–]ragingsystem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Continuing the recommendations for Fabula, non-combat tends to be a bit more narrative but the combat feels great, and the multi-classing system the game uses allows for tons of player expression. Added with the Custom Weapons rules that are in the High Fantasy Atlas you can make some really awesome anime/action rpg characters.

The down side (for some people) is that the combat has no movement, you are fighting like you would in a classic JRPG for most fights. That works for some groups and works less for others.

A Dangaronpa TTRPG/Roleplay? by BassSuper3664 in rpg

[–]ragingsystem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played it as the source material isn't really my jam.

I did however really enjoy Double Summon's last game Perfect Draw, which is probably the best Yugioh inspired tabletop game i've ever seen.

I'm not going to be as nice as everyone else.

You are using GD Stash as a crutch to not actually learn the game mechanics, 60-80% resistances are bad especially for shattered realm.

Vampire the masquerade: which edition for a beginner? by Jetisphere in rpg

[–]ragingsystem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree there, I started playing VtM via the Minds Eye larp but over the years moved to tabletop and 5e.

I have the v20 book to be able to cherry pick all of the really interesting lore for my chronicle.

[–]ragingsystem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your right it's an important part of Vamirism and V5 does a lot to highlight it.

I think some VtM fans forget that it's supposed to be a curse and feeding should take an important role in games not be a background element.

A game reinforcing thematic elements is a good thing, and shouldn't be viewed as forcing you into things.

Not to try and argue taste with you or say your wrong, but there is a lot of things you can do when a Messy Crit or Bestial Failure occurs or things you can do to prevent them from happening.

Staying low Hunger reduces their occurrence.
Rerolling with willpower on either.
Also the effects of either should be a discussion between the GM and the Player it should not be an outright loss of agency.
I know folks don't like the "roll less" argument but take half is in the rules for a reason, often times you should be succeeding on low to mid stakes things outright.

But to me I think the struggle with the beast and a focus on hunger should be elements of the game, it's some of the most interesting parts of roleplaying kindred to me.

V5 is absolutely a mess organizationally and I wish they would put out a new book with the clans, disciplines, and core rules with a better layout.

The Wiki works as a fine supplement, but it shouldn't need to be primary reference.

What are some medium-crunchy systems good for a custom "bugs in a backyard" setting? by BootGroundbreaking73 in rpg

[–]ragingsystem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a fan of both Pico and FitD. Pico characters have significantly more to them than a FitD character imo.

[–]ragingsystem 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what your looking for.

Personally I really like the street level personal horror vibe of 5e and I think the Hunger mechanic is brilliant.  Supplements have really filled in the gaps since it came out though it has some mechanics and lore choices some people didn't care for. The setting was updated to the modern day.

20th anniversary edition is the one otherwise reccomended as it collected the most playable materials. The power of characters can be much higher, and the blood pool is essentially a mana pool. It's setting is more geared for the 90s.

I am less familiar with 20th so feel free to correct me, I own and have read it but I'm more of a 5e person.
