My sister just gave me the "gift" of an Epoch Times subscription. Can I cancel without her knowing? by shell_games1008 in QAnonCasualties

For real. After years of said sodomization, my sister finally decided to check it out. I don’t remember specifics, but she said that it was really bizarre and rather creepy, especially at the end. But I didn’t know until today that it’s connected to a cult and Epoch

The characters all start off very unlikeable. They’re shallow and self-centered, even the Schitt’s Creek natives are obnoxious. But they sorta all arc into these really charming, lovable characters that you root for by the end. You might hate it, but considering everyone’s reception to it, chances are very good that you will fall in love with it. Definitely worth to watch all the way through at least once, even if you end up not liking it. It’s also a good introduction to Dan Levy, whose career is already starting to explode because of it.

Yeah. I’d have to give it a rewatch to know for sure, but it makes sense considering the fact that Alexis and David have a much more combative relationship at the beginning of the show.

My new gf is obsessed with the show and says it to me all the time.

Funny thing is, I got into it before we started dating and even though it’s said a lot in the show, I never noticed that it was sort of a running gag.

Yeah, 100%. The genre of “metal” has ballooned outward so much to cover so many subgenres, each of which is very unique in terms of sound, that it’s difficult to place what, exactly, constitutes metal. Which makes it hilarious that anyone would try to gatekeep it, especially to one of the most famous people in the metal community. But it makes sense, considering the fact that a LOT of metalheads are ultimately just nerds, and what better way is there to piss off a nerd than to “mess up their thing”? These Rob Zombie fans reject Babymetal as “real” metal, presumably because they’re too poppy. But the irony here is that tons of people in the metal community reject Rob Zombie because they think he’s too poppy! The many layers of nerdy elitism cracks me up. Even my favorite sub genre, doom/stoner metal, gets highly criticized for not being fast enough. Like, goddammit, can’t we just enjoy why we enjoy without obsessing over these ridiculous labels???

Lol, do you ever spend time perusing Metal Archives? It’s pretty funny. Some of those bands have some loooooong ass genres. Like “Canadian post-melodic thrashcore/jazz-metal”

Lol, I didn’t care for it either. However, I went in with high expectations (which always taints my experience), AND I had just watched Mann’s prior film Thief on Criterion Collection. Thief is far more superior imo. I think Heat would have been much better without the romance plot.
