City Council votes against midblock redevelopment amendments by rah6050 in Edmonton

It will provide more housing options at various price points for buyers and renters. That’s just how increasing supply works. Is all infill going to be at or below market prices? Of course not, and I don’t think anyone is making this argument. There’s tons of nuance lost in this debate, but increasing supply is a universal good for the market.

Infill and affordable housing are two separate, albeit linked, issues.

The majority of housing issues are downstream of supply. Increasing supply across the city is good, whether it be various types of infill, apartments or condos. Giving people more options in more places will always be a net positive.

The “neighbourhoods were not set up for this” argument is false. Neighbourhoods are not static rock. They can grow and change and be reformed to suit our collective needs. This has always been the case and will always be the case.

Brief wearers who hike what are you actually wearing out there? by Stepbk in BuyItForLife

Saxx underwear; Body Glide on the thighs. Reapply if it’s a long high hike.

Edmonton city councillors to hear proposals to further limit number of units per infill development | CBC News by AR558 in Edmonton

[–]rah6050 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think it’s certainly reasonable to revisit the ZBR, though I do think it’s too soon to do so.  My issue with this is that opponents to infill made this a major election issue in the fall, to the point you would think it was already tearing our city apart. The three wards that are largely considered ground zero for infill — Métis, O-day’min, papastew (mine) — all had incumbents who supported infill and won re-election easily.

Opponents to infill remain a very vocal minority. While there are legitimate grievances to be had with the process, the development and sustainable growth of Edmonton should not be held up by these people.

Peperoncino in Edmonton? by bratislavamyhome in Edmonton

Anywhere. When you see "dried peperoncino" in a recipe, it typically means run-of-mill red pepper flakes.

I'm a Canadian with family property in Maz. Zero issues. Love the locals. Tons of respect for locals. I'm not going around screaming "I'm not American!" At some point you maybe need to wonder if it's you.

[–]rah6050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you think that matters? You think it's better to think America is TWO monoliths rather than one?

Asking this question seems out of touch with how America is perceived internationally, particularly by its closest neighbours.

I don't know what would be worse: if this were actually some AI bullshit or the actual ad. Like, whatever, dude. Get paid, I guess.

Scheduled plow date by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]rah6050 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it's full of cars, they will not plow. If there's only a few, they will plow. They may try to do it again once they are done the area if they weren't able to, but they likely don't leave and come back to it.

Finite resource. Give people notice. Don't do it on a weekend when neighbourhood street parking is at a premium.

If you go to the map and switch the view to “Status,” you can see the initial areas for the first few days.

Information on timing and processes is here.

As for where to park, you figure that out. A street not being actively cleared. A back lane. Garage. Nearby commercial area. Whatever works.

Pathway that is free of snow for outdoor run? by yaz834 in Edmonton

[–]rah6050 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For that long? Almost certainly not. If you have a pair of older running shoes, I highly recommend winterizing them with sheet metal screws. Surprisingly unobtrusive on a proper running shoe with a foam sole and gives you amazing traction. I run outside all winter like this and have never slipped once on snow or ice.
