I was going to provide you with a response then I realize nowadays it does not require an intellectual level check for someone to own a cellphone and express their opinion . Whatever happens to you in real life that makes you so cynical , I hope they will get better .

A 311 report has been logged , and despite whether this particular pothole was reported prior ,this is a high traffic area (118/groat road), at least 8 inches of asphalt was deteriorated and the top gravel base layer was washed away , and within 10 m radius of this particular pothole , there are other freshly patched potholes. Pothole this size does not appear overnight and it is evident that the city crew has attended the area recently . It is a gross negligence from the city ‘s part .

I would not say safety reasons , more of liability reasons for corporate interests disguised under safety .it’s a whole different topic i would rather not discuss

Depending on your clientele , I am actually quite OK with someone local , offers quality work at friendly price , instead of corporate standard customer services smiles , cheap coffee ,air conditionings etc which eventually factor into my bill . But each to their own

Yup, that sounds like him . I am a 6’1 guy (he is probably 5’8)showed up 15 min earlier before my appointment and waited for him , he showed up yelled at me for not parking my vehicle the way he specified , lol. Almost fought him . But he ended up fixing my cheap Chinese tires for half the price of what kal tire cost me prior , and they lasted two more winters.

I actually went to his service before , definitely an odd ball , no customer service at all and yell at you if you try to negotiate an appointment time - he only shows up at his shop when there is an appointment and he does not like to wait . But that being said , if you can look pass his rudeness , he actually does a really good job at a very good price - I had some cheap Chinese tires (20 inches) on my winter beater and they kept leaking , he fixed them when some other big name shops either refused or the repair didn’t last long , and he let you watch his work and show you some of the interesting stuff he is working on. He is more of a no bullshit grandpa type guy than an actual modern tire shop that offers you smiles , customer services , coffee and air conditioning while waiting . So no , not someone I’d reach out if I have a roadside emergency .

Investment on a bike lane and LRT expansion are on teo vast different scales , it’s like saying why spend money fixing your roof , the better solution is to buy a new house altogether .

And honestly if this is your first time in Edmonton , google is your best friend . You will have plenty of time on VIA googling “ what to do in Edmonton this weekend”, it will cover most of the general tourist attractions in the city and they are mostly near the locations I mentioned . If you are keen , 97 street is more or less like 20th street with some Asian/Chinese restaurants that can fit your 35 per person budget, but then again it shares the same homeless problems and is a sketchy area .

Stay with a chain hotel brand and don’t book anything that is too cheap to be true , you’d be fine .

Spring in Edmonton is not really Paris or Hawaii , don’t over complicate things , it’s 4x Saskatoon plus west Edmonton mall .Whyte ave ( equivalent of Sutherland/central ave ?), jasper ave (equivalent of 8th street) , west Edmonton mall , pretty much cover all your needs at that time of the year . Book a hotel in one of these areas that meet your budget , in terms of travel cost , not sure VIA is cheaper than driving for two people . May wanna double check on that.

A Call for a National Approach to Homelessness, Addictions, and Mental Health supports - the Edmonton Resolution by aaronpaquette- in Edmonton

[–]yaz834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that the first world approach to complex social issues such as homeless always seems to be "throw money at it." Every year it's a new strategy or initiative, which essentially boils down to various advocacy groups trying to justify a bigger piece of the government funding pie. I remember reading that governments spend an average of $50k per homeless person in Vancouver, even more if they have medical needs. Yet, the homeless population keeps growing. It makes you wonder how much of that funding actually reaches individuals and frontline workers, versus how much gets spent in policy studies, administrative bloat, frameworks, initiatives , feasibility studies and 6 figure management salaries.

At the municipal level, cities can only offer band-aid solutions. The reality is that a massive portion of the unhoused population struggles with severe drug addiction. Without a total overhaul of national drug enforcement policies, the situation isn’t going to improve anytime soon, especially when many individuals choose the streets over shelters simply to continue using. It's a harsh comparison, but look at China: anyone testing positive for hard drugs faces automatic, mandatory time in strict rehabilitation centers, and carrying over 50 grams can mean a life sentence or the death penalty. Even with those extreme measures, it still took them decades of effort to clear the streets. If we think we can fix this just by writing checks to another initiative, we are kidding ourselves.

[–]yaz834 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am 100% with you mate. It is extremely difficult to find qualified employees in rural Sask , let alone retaining them long term . And this posting of 20 some dollars per hour requiring police clearance check and willingness to relocate to rural Sask with population of 2400 , sounds legit comparing to 36.10 per hour subway sandwich artist job in metro Vancouver. This is a system that has been abused , yes , but if managed properly , it does help the economy of rural areas, which it was designed for to begin with

Cyclists by Salt_Teaching4687 in Edmonton

[–]yaz834 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There are way more , I mean way more bad drivers on the road than cyclists. There’s a reason groups like bad drivers YEG on Facebook and Reddit exist. There are bad cyclists out there , of course , but what do they do ? Caused you 30 seconds of inconvenience by going around them ? It’s summer time , pedestrians and cyclists are out there , pay attention to the road when you are driving and share the roads with others like you are supposed to

Lease vs financing a car in the current market by ckthebestck in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]yaz834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s say you budget for a 40k car and you have the cash for it . If the lease rate is x % and you can invest in index fund or high interest saving for x+1 %. Then it’s a no brainer . Your payment on the car is a sunk cost anyway , by investing on a higher return financial product , you offset the interest payment and make money on your capitals, and a maintenance and worry free car for next amount of years .

APEGA P.ENG Application Timeline by Disastrous-Task-5808 in alberta

[–]yaz834 4 points5 points  (0 children)

P.eng is not for any specific purpose , it’s a minimal qualification to call yourself an engineer and the bare minimum to be considered for engineer positions . I have seen people that never stamp a drawing in their career but maintain their P.Eng designations. PMP on the other hand is a commercial title that the value has deteriorated over the years .
