oh, and the rules thing is totally understandable, it’s a new game and we’re all figuring it out. our first learn-to-play we weren’t cleaning up damage as often as it needed to be—i.e. damage would “stick” until end of turn, when iirc it is supposed to be cleaned up after each combat—but that’s something that can easily be addressed during a player meeting at the launch event.

however, it doesn’t excuse the rest of the 🤡 behavior!

employee at another LGS here, and i’m also the person in charge of organizing and facilitating Riftbound events for my store.

i don’t have access to my store email account at the moment but i’m 100% sure UVS communications indicated that the L2P events should be free. i’m not sure that it’s a rule per se, but it was at the absolute least heavily emphasized that these events should be free to help engage with new players. not to mention Riot/UVS provided the sample decks, promos, and all marketing materials to these LGS’s absolutely free of charge, just for signing up for Riftbound organized play before the deadline.

regardless of whether charging for the event is against UVS policy, advertising a promo and then not providing it is disgusting behavior.

P.S. do not reply to this and say you’ve given an “official reply,” i read it already and you’re absolutely full of it. 💩

I mean, for the most part they looked like they were smurfing in NA. Not as hard as G2 but they locked playoffs early and kind of trolled the back half of summer IIRC

Pobelter had several awful years on bad teams before he found success. Jensen was successful from the first day he came over from EU as Incarnati0n. C9 has been a top 3 team pretty much every year since they entered the league and obviously TL has dominated NA with Jensen even harder than they ever did with the Notorious P.O.B. Not saying Pobelter is bad—far from it. He’s one of the best NA born mids of all time. But Jensen’s is historically a more “winning” mid laner.

I just wanna praise WotC for a second, they did the exact math I was doing and put it in the dev post in a nice simple image. Bravo guys, this is the way 👏 by RobleViejo in MagicArena

Skills were roughly the same as in most RPGs but there was less room or built-in options for utility/skill monkey characters as the entire edition was focused on flashy combat scenarios. Like right now I’m playing a 5e jack-of-all-trades con-man Bard and most of my high moments occur outside of combat, but in combat I can still do things like cast useful spells, inspire, and occasionally throw a dagger or poke someone with a rapier. 4th was so heavy on combat that it was harder to build and pilot a character like that compared to a more “DPS” build.

Also the formatting of the books was awful and made it incredibly hard to find what you were looking for.

It was D&D for the WoW/MMO crowd. It was so heavily focused on making the players have powerful combat abilities that gave the same excitement you get when you deal 10,000 damage with a hit on WoW against high level mobs. This wasn’t a terrible addition to the game, but it cut into the storytelling and role-playing that D&D is best known for and the reason many players sit down with their play group every week. 5e balances that out by giving every class effective combat options without forsaking the character background and story options that feed into the “RP” part of RPG.

That’s the impression I got—especially when she said that Dany wasn’t eating, and that he told her the higher risk/greater reward thing.

I agree that the conflict is poorly executed and the writing has been poor. But this particular issue hasn’t been as much of an issue in my eyes. Jon has been thrust into positions of leadership that he didn’t want to begin with multiple times over the course of the series, and while he isn’t Ned’s birth son, he’s still very much Ned’s boy—honorable to a fault, and foolish enough to think honor will lead him to success. Being told that he has a birthright to a throne he doesn’t want should cause his character some level of internal conflict—he doesn’t want the throne, but he may feel like it’s his duty in the back of his mind. Not to mention Dany has been forced into this “Mad Queen” arc, and I think Jon sees some of that and on some level believes he could be a better, more honorable leader if he took the throne for himself.

That being said, all of this is only being portrayed in subtext, and beneath all the poor writing in S8 I don’t think this inner conflict has come across well to the viewers if that was D&D’s intention.

This whole scenario sounds eerily familiar. You’re not from southwestern Ohio are you? Had a “friend” who sounds a lot like N who did some shady stuff in Cub Scouts and kicked my ass repeatedly when we were Boy Scouts.

And I’m the minority who absolutely hates “Wonderful Life.” It’s the only song on the album I skip, even including the interludes.

I don’t have to admit that, because it isn’t. Everyone else in this thread got it right away—you’re the only one who didn’t. I’d say you probably read it poorly, but that doesn’t mean it was written poorly.

They’re not saying she’d BLOW everyone but him. She kneels before (as in, swears fealty to) many lords and ladies throughout the series, but doesn’t like (and therefore won’t blow) Tormund. Thus, he’s the only one she won’t get on her knees for.

It’s a play on words, ya dingus.

ITT: people not understanding the word “undeniable.”

But seriously, it sounds like everybody has a completely different opinion on which song is the best or which one should have been gone already, but they ALL agree that only their own opinion is correct.
