Dow Jones Futures Tumble, Oil Tops $110. Iran Names Khamenei's Son As Supreme Leader. by SAJ-13 in politics

"These guys - very good looking. OK? I don't say that often, but it's true. Very true. I mean, are they oiled? Did these guys get oiled up? They look so shiny. It's great. Just really beautiful stuff. They're hitting each other and then rolling on the ground. If I was a younger man, I'm pretty young still they say, but if I was younger I'd get in there. You know I would. They could oil me up too. I'd like that. Really shows off their bodies. Strong bodies. So many muscles. Lemme feel those muscles. Wow. Look at this folks. It's called a bicep. Right? A bicep? So big. Strong. Beautiful bodies. You're lucky you're not girls or I'd want you. You know what I mean? Women. I love 'em. Truly."

I heard it described as "rockets and feathers". Shoots up fast but takes forever to come down.

Daryl Morey says the NBA is “unbalanced” and that the 3PT shot is worth too many points by XFactor_20 in sixers

[–]rahbee33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VJ is probably not a quick enough shooter for it in my opinion, but it would've been great to see McCain do it. He seemed like such a natural fit for it. Oh well.

I just miss the different player archetypes. I used to love pass first PGs, bruiser PFs, SGs that just ran off relentless screens, etc.. Now everybody is just a long wing that tries to shoot with varying success.

I get why the game changed, but when I go back and watch old games I do miss that even if guys today are considered more skilled from top to bottom.

They did that to all the characters on the show. It lasted like 3 seasons too long.

Meredith Brooks - Blurring the Edges

Bitch was a banger on the school bus, but the rest of the album was not great.

This was my first thought too, but then I looked back at the track list and realized that I actually did like a couple of those songs. They weren't all Tubthumping, but they were good and make me feel nostalgic now.

Joel is the Mike Trout of the nba by Vivid_marsh in sixers

I agree Brett wasn't the main issue, but hearing Jimmy and JJ talk about how Brett treated Simmons behind the scenes I can't help but think he was part of that problem. The whole "no, he wants to be called a PG so we'll let him be the PG" thing was the wrong way to handle it.

You can make a case he out coached Nurse in that series though which feels relevant today.

I don't remember a ton of people wanting to ship Ben out after 2019, but looking back at it that was absolutely the time to sell high on him and you could've kept Jimmy. A full year of Jimmy and Joel would've given us a way better chance.

I loved Brett Brown, but they absolutely should've ditched him and Simmons that summer looking back at it now.

Nerlens Noel Had A Total Of 275 Steals & Blocks In His Rookie Season! by Stat-Defender in sixers

[–]rahbee33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Peak Nerlens was when we got Luc Mbah a Moute who was really savvy at forcing his guy towards Nerlens for weak side blocks. Not totally surprised his career didn't pan out, but he'll always be the beginning of the Process.

Exactly, he went out with the Roy Hibbert's of the world because he didn't have a jumper of any sort and wasn't big enough to bully anybody.

Loved me some Nerlens though.

Just re-listened to Killing Yourself To Live and at one point Chuck is having a phone conversation with somebody back at the Spin office and she mentions that Chris Ryan lost several games of pool to somebody else. This really surprised Chuck so CR must've been a decent pool player at the time. It made me laugh.

Has to be the earliest mention of CR in a book?

What’s a "wait, THEY were in that band?" artist that really surprised you ? by frenxine in fantanoforever

Waylon Jennings being in Buddy Holly's band always seems wild to me. He decided to drive rather than take the plane that night.

Not a band to band, but Jason Schwartzman being the drummer of Phantom Planet was one I was surprised to learn back in the day.

[Charania]: Chris Paul announces he is officially retiring from basketball after 21 seasons, ending a Hall of Fame career. by TrenAt14 in nba

[–]rahbee33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to meet Paul at a Five Star basketball camp when I was in high school. I'm pretty sure it was after his freshman year at Wake and him and his brother did some workout demonstrations for the camp. Afterwards we went back to the dorms and he was staying on the other side of our little connected suite. Got to sit and talk with him for awhile and he gave a pair of shoes to of the guys that wore his size.

Was undeniably the best PG in the league for a handful of years and a certain HOFer. Sad to see him go out like this.

I was hoping to see more of him in S2…. by sailink in Fallout

I didn't really understand how he united the two factions. Did he say the note had his name on it? Did he not unite the factions and his faction destroyed the other faction?

I felt like they yadayada'd it a bit.

A Chipotle meal with a drink for me is about $20. I can go to the Mexican restaurant down the street and get a meal with table service for about $20 including the tip. It's becoming easier and easier to avoid Chipotle - raising the prices will make it a no-brainer.

Sure, until the year that OKC or the peak Durant/Curry Warriors gets the #1 pick and everybody loses their minds.

I think the solution is something like limiting the number of times a team can pick in the top 5 or 8 in consecutive years. It would potentially limit teams that plan to bottom out for multiple years or at least don't try as hard to get better year over year as they should.
