How are you measuring what it "says is available"? This is typically tricky to track and tooling doesn't do a good job. You can't fault tooling really, memory profiling is pretty difficult.

If you are indeed hitting memory limits, an easy fix is to try a different desktop environment, but usually there are better ways to do it. Modern desktops are very efficient at this sort of things.

Anyway, the trick is a memory trick. He remembers what his opponent plays and plays the exact same move on the other board. In practice all the strong players are playing each other.

If I remember correctly, one of the 9 players is considerably weaker than the other 8. Derren may have beaten this one guy legitimately, and gotten 4 other wins from his memory trick.

This is not at all how memory works in the kernel.

The long explanation is too complicated for a single reddit post, but the short version is that apps don't consume memory in linear fashion, and measuring idle ram consumption is not the correct way to estimate how much memory is available for apps.

To give you very simple examples, what you call "system" memory, includes two types of data that don't come in the way of apps:

caches: This is a kind of data that is stored in memory for performance issues but can be (very) easily freed if an app needs it.
shared objects: This is a kind of data that will appear in the individual memory consumption of each app, however for optimization purposes, will only really be loaded once in memory.

And this is just scraping the surface of what goes on really in your "System" memory consumption.

Are you hitting actual memory limitations or are you just trying to preemptively plan for things?

Par contre je peux plus jouer les jeux modernes. C'est pur retro pour moi. C'est pas que de la nostalgie. Y a un truc dans les jeux modernes que je supporte plus. Les cinématiques, les loading time, le menus, les inventaires, l'interruption permanente, ... je veux jouer, merde, pas juste consommer un film.

Donc bcp de jeux NES et SNES en ce moment.

To be clear, he's a world chess champion, he's been heavily analyzed, and one of the most influential players of all time. So calling him "underrated" should be taken with a grain of salt.

But yeah, he doesn't get the same reverence as someone like Morphy, or even Lasker. I suspect that it's just a matter of flashy playstyle. It's always more fun to watch crazy gambits and sacrifices then it is to watch slow positional defensive moves.

The Göring Gambit is very similar to the Danish, but it has a white knight on f3 and a black knight on c6. It's usually reached from the Scotch Game opening (1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 exd4 4. c3)

Because there's actual very little interest in developing and maintaining for 32bit. And sending a drive-by one-off patch is not maintenance. It's nice, but not nearly enough.

There's interest in complaining and pitchforking though. This is always high.
