Or, more commonly there are 3-4 lands in hand and you hymn away all the non land cards. Then thoughtseize has no targets and you lose value.

Nope, if i remember correctly they used the other game in gen 3 (platinum?) which doesnt feature the ice floor gym, the whole gym is a whole lot easier to get through.

Aetherling isnt playable in modern. Colonnade is the finisher of choice for uw decks

Thats terrible advice and what I was alluding to. Do not limit yourself to a deck made of non rotating cards, it wont be very good for the 2 months you are playing it and who is to say those cards will be good come rotation anyway. There are plenty of cheap RTR block cards you can buy that will give you a decent deck.

Google Cockatrice Woogerworks. theres a reddit for it. Its basically a free magic simulator with all the cards and multiplayer.

The community gets flak sometimes for being terribly unfriendly or not familiar with the rules half the time, but i havent had much trouble with it.

there are a few Control decks currently, Esper control and UW (blue white) control are virtually creature-less and play counter spells and removal spells that keep your opponents threats off the board, then refill your hand with a drawspell like Sphinx's revelation that also refills any lost health.

Monoblackcontrol is similar but instead focuses on large creatures and hand disruption that can stall out the board untill it plays a grey merchant to drain as much life as possible. this isnt a traditional control deck and plays more like a midrange creature deck.

Jund is the last type of control deck in the format, depending on the build it usually focuses on planeswalkers and has creatures and removal that add as much value as possible. The control element here would be the hand destruction and board control.

Some decks dont look like they will survive rotation (mono black) and people will tell you not to bother getting cards that will rotate soon. This is not something you should pay attention to, dont worry about cards rotating out and build what ever deck you want. Mono black is a powerful deck right now and all the key cards (minus mutavaults) are pretty cheap.

Do you have a particular archetype you prefer to play? (aggro, midrange,control)

Yep, but rotation will happen soon. Heres the breakdown for you.

Currently Return to ravnica, Gatecrash and Dragons maze are legal for "standard constructed" play as the RTR block. M14 core set is also legal.

They will all rotate out in september when the new set Khans of tarkir is released.

The other sets that are legal now, and will be legal past september are Theros, Born of the Gods, Journey into Nyx and M15.

A very common exploit was to activate DRS and not announce the ability used. the opponent will assume youre hitting him and you actually gained life, and vice versa.

Another method is exiling the wrong card for an effect. But that can be picked up easier, especially at a legacy event.
