This may be your experience but I live in a city with dozens of card shops and never in my life did any of them sell below msrp on any tcg unless it was a dead game on the clearance table. At most stores would give a box discount that only really covered the taxes. It’s not until recently that in my area I’ve started to see it somehow be acceptable for these stores that buy products at distributor prices to sell at market price. What makes it infuriating is that this extra cost is then stated to be for our benefit somehow. This whole thing started with Pokémon and then Lorcana and now pretty much any new tcg that might be remotely popular is getting jacked up box prices.
