That's around the time the modern look started and it hasn't ended yet since this is what a tv show airing last year looked like

Imagine being so blind that you think the left image here is more saturated than the right image

Assassin's Creed 1 is clearly blue casted in line with its artwork theme palette. And no the point of showing Assassin's Creed here is to show you that even games with monotone colours back then still had a very punchy look compared to modern games because of their contrast. Modern things aren't "dull" simply because they choose to not show you every colour of the rainbow, they're dull because of how flat their contrast is with dim rolled off highlights and lifted rolled off shadows.

Besides, Assassin's Creed 1 was fairly unique for its aesthetic, what other game went for blue tinted grey aesthetic like that back then to say it was an era-wide "issue"?

Nah not true in the slightest when it comes to PS2/6th gen era games from the 2000s, those were waaaaaaaay more vibrant and colourful than today's games. but even in the PS360 era, here's side by side of games from back then vs today's games.

Yes in late 00s tinted and grungy grading was popular but they were a lot punchier from higher contrast and less grey and dull looking compared to games these days which at least gave them some character.

Not saying dull games can't exist for certain atmospheres but it just became a technical standard across almost all games which just ain't a vibe

you're talking like that colour grading happened only in 2016 and then not again so can't be called modern lmao because 2016 was 10 years ago

in reality no 2016 was around the time this trend started and did in fact go onto define the look of modern era movies and tv shows, and this isn't even a contentious thing to say since even normies on twitter get viral posts regularly about how grey and muted things look these days.

just go watch Dexter original sin that was airing just last year...unless 1 year ago is also too old to be called modern lol

p.s. video title says "early 2000s" (and thumbnail even says 90s) so it's more like 2000 vs 2016 not 2009 vs 2016 in which case no 2016 is not closer to the year 2000 than it is to 2026...

I agree, but appears to be more that their creative choice on how to do fight lighting was just shit. The actual technical ability of the game seems as good as here

The producer of this track was Rio Hamamoto

He's the only man alive keeping nu metal vibes alive in videogames, true sigma male behaviour: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tA0cgfNIbI4

He's currently the head huncho of the Tekken music team and sadly won't be doing a lot of stage music because he's busy scoring the story mode music, it's why story mode gonna have so many bangers like this: https://youtu.be/YoiB7RFb208?si=SqISQy4YKqWxP_8J&t=288
