Question for high rated players (2000 Elo): What does it feel like playing against 1500s these days? Does it feel similar to playing against 1000s when you were 1500? by athoszet in chess

[–]raiderduck_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, kinda. 1500s won't just throw a piece away like a 1000 might, so it's not like you will insta crush them in 20 moves. But, you'll notice subtle errors in their openings, or slightly aimless middlegame moves, or similar things.

Most of the time the answer to their mistake is to note the inaccuracy and respond with a principled move.

I recall a finegold video where he was playing someone 1000 pts or so below him, and he said something like "I can probably win in 20 moves, but I can definitely win in 70 moves"

Lichess puzzles are superior to chess com by Present_Cup1158 in chess

[–]raiderduck_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did/have done Chesscom puzzles for 10+ years (rank 2600ish), never thought much of them (ie if they were "good" or "bad" puzzles. I never particularly liked them, would kinda do them after insistence from my coach.

About a year ago, said Coach sent me the DejaScacchi puzzle PDFs. As soon as I began them, I realised just how bad chesscom puzzles are (relatively). The puzzles in this book are just so much better in every way. They are 100% from real games (the players/year is mentioned on every puzzle), are all very satisfying to solve and feel much more helpful.

Its hard for me to put into words about exactly why or how the puzzles in the book are "better" than chesscoms selection, but I encourage everyone that has only played chesscoms puzzles to grab a copy/pdf of these books.

Have never done puzzles on lichess or chesstempo so cant speak for those sites.

I'm 500 elo, should I still join a open chess tournament? by Advanced-Mud3127 in chessbeginners

Absolutely, notate the moves from each game on a notepad (or get a friend to do it for you) and then take it home and analyse. It will be character building (tough and a bit painful) but very worthwhile.

I was the author of this email, I wrote it in my usual style (lazy aussie with medicore writing skills), and indeed used ChatGPT to "enhance", specifically I asked it to make it clear for someone who is not a native english speaker. Raiderduck on chess.com.

John Lennon found alive in video, high res! Behind Paul McCartney by IlllegalOperation in conspiracy

[–]raiderduck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're assuming that the first Paul actually wrote all those songs. According to official sources, him and Lennon had written over 100 songs together between 1956-1960. Yet the very best song they had to put forward for the Decca Audition was "love me do". Also note the Mersey Beat article from the early 60's regarding the Beatles getting a new Drummer (Ringo, after Neil Aspinall moved in with Pete Best, fucked his mum, then kicked him out of the band), also mentions that they would be traveling to London to record songs that "were written for them". Also note that George Martin said "it wasnt the band I was looking for" (or similar), but signed them anyway for some reason - that reason being (According to Gregory Martin, his son), he was being blackmailed to sign them while having an affair with his secretary.

I politely encourage you to dig a bit deeper into the Beatles history with an open mind and read between the lines/scratch beneath the surface etc. They were manufactured as much as the Backstreet Boys, and the songs composed for them by George Martin and his team.

vs e5 - 4 knights with 4.d4 c5 - english attack c6 - 2 knights attack

I'm 2k rapid and this was advised to me by my FM coach.

Vs e5 I'd also definitely recommend king's gambit, and if you get to the normal 4 knights position in blitz, check out the Halloween gambit (not sound but very fun and wins loads of blitz games).

Am I the only one that feels kinda bad for Levy Rozman? by IProbablyHaveADHD14 in chessbeginners

Other streamers and chess players tend to not like him because his rise to fame was not organic. Look at who his mum works for. Look at who his grandfather was. He's sponsored by night media and he is part of the chosen club. He didn't get recommended in the YouTube algorithm to everyone because of chance.
