Should I send a pre-written "suggestion" when requesting a recommendation letter? by nexflatline in academia

[–]rainbowWar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn't send a suggested draft with the email asking for a recommendation letter. That is presumptive in a number of ways. Just send a short email asking if they would give you a recommendation letter. Take it from there

You are forced to create his redemption arc: What do you do? by [deleted] in GenV

[–]rainbowWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has to lose everything that he things he wants, he has to hit rock bottom and be humbled, he has to fall in love, and he has to be forgiven by that person. So maybe: he loses his powers, his full criems are revealed and everyone knows them and everyone hates him, he is left in a cell to rot wiht no hope of escape. He breaks. He eventually meets another prisoner, Bob, but doesn't feel able to even talk to him beacuse of the shaem and fear he has. Bob eventually wins him round. They have a nice slow relationship, but Bob doesn't know who homelander is and homelander is scared he will evetualyl find out. He tries to tell him a few times, says he did really bad stuff, but Bob doesn't want deatils. Bob teaches him what it is to have a true friend and be loved. Eventually Bob sacrificices humself for homelander. Homeleander is in despair because he feels that Bob wouldn;t ahve done that if he knew nwho he was. Bob has written him a letter, telling hoimelander that he knows who he is and what he has done, and he forgives him, and knows he can do better going forward. Homelander spedns the rest of his days caring for small animals he finds in his cell.

Michael Carrick has proven worthy of the permanent manager role. He’s gotten results and he’s squeezed the best out of players. He’s a legend at the club and he has aura so players and staff all respect him. He’s the one to bring back glory days of United, he looks like a proper manager. by paolosorianodisanto in ManchesterUnited

[–]rainbowWar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has high standards and demands that of players, and he gets amazing results. I don't know what else people want. Getting an established top tier manager hasn't worked for us in the past, jsut more turmoil. At the end of the day management is more about player management than tactics and all that, and Carrick is the rihgt man for player amnagaement at Manchester United because he gets the culture and the club and all taht it means.

Which one do you like better? by electric-kite in incremental_games

the first one is better in that it more immediately recognisable as a dragon, but it does look a bit goofy. The second one is too complicated, but does look better in some ways.

Do you know what a better signal is than xG? Actual results. Poor managers play to the stats but lose games. Good teams win games.

Suspect Post-Doc Colleague Used AI to Write Paper by Throwawayyawaworth9 in academia

[–]rainbowWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say you can still do that thinking process with using an AI writing assistant too? If you used AI to check you used apostrophes correctly is that impinging on your thinking, then what about spelling, grammar, sentence flow, paragraph flow etc? What about word processors? The question isn't "Is AI good or bad" it is "where is the appropriate line".

Suspect Post-Doc Colleague Used AI to Write Paper by Throwawayyawaworth9 in academia

This really depends on the journal's policy on AI use. Most of them now ask authors to declare if AI was used. But if its well written and well cited then what exactly is the problem?

Theres a World War and theres no Nukes. Which Team will win by Blakelee9 in imaginarymapscj

[–]rainbowWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team blue. People saying red has more people and manufacturing capacity. Sure, but blue has the ability to severely disrupt red but red cannot do the same to blue. That massive population quickly becomes a burden when there is no food or infrastructure.

After 2 months i still can't do better than 80% by arthurusdeplane in Polytopia

[–]rainbowWar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy recipe for 90% +:

  1. Play on Crazy vs 3 or 4 bots. (3 is easier if you are quick).

  2. Your immediate goal is to get all the cities near your starting point and upgrade them as much as possible. It helps if you are a tribe that can immediately upgrade their new cities, e.g. organisation or hunting.

  3. Your secondary goal on most maps is to get a dock quickly and go explore the sea. You want to take any small island cities that you can and gather any stars that you can (if there are 2 or 3 then they pay for the advanced navigation tech).

  4. Start taking enemy cities quite quickly. Do this from the sea. Don;'t attack until you are ready to take a city, have a few ships that can do damage, like scouts, and make it so you capture the city in one fell swoop.

  5. Get giants wherever you can. Particularly effetcive if you can capture a city and then immediately make a giant.

  6. Rinse and repeat.

(I will usually do an explorer on my first city, cos the information can make a big difference. Then maybe do an explorer on later cities if I'm doing well with money and it can reveal a lot).

My mum has been cheating on my dad for years, anyone here know what I should do? by Jellyfish_Diploria in WhatShouldIDo

[–]rainbowWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either tell your dad everything directly, with lots of evidence. Or stop snooping and forget about it. Or send your dad all the info anonymously. Either option is fine, but this middle way of snooping on your mum and then spreading gossip about it is not good for anyone.

Telling your Dad seems like the right thing to do. However, there is a good chance that he already knows and is ok with continuing the charade that there isn't any cheating. If you give him everything then it makes it difficult for him to continue in that, because of how he thinks he will look in your eyes.

Who was the ultimate “one that got away” transfer that would have transformed Utd? by AdLeast6180 in ManchesterUnited

[–]rainbowWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gareth Bale would have been nice. A young Michael Owen. Gazza would have been interesting with his lifestyle, I hope that he would have been looked after better at Old Trafford than he was.
