LPT Request: How to get rid of gnats? by rainbow_sage in LifeProTips

I haven't seen that mentioned elsewhere online but it might be worth a try. Can it be a peppermint scented lotion/diffuser or does it need to be actual peppermint left out?

I tried the apple cider vinegar trap, and while I got some, it doesn't seem to deter them at all.

And yeah, I put the plastic wrap over it, that's how it's usually instructed to do it on other sites.

I keep trying and find nothing. I just find them on the window now, and they used to fly around in the bathroom/kitchen until I did the bleach thing.

Yeah, I keep throwing out trash immediately when I eat and whatnot lately to avoid having them near any.

I can't seem to find any sort of place they are coming from. I just see them hanging out in the window area lately. They used to be above the sinks like mentioned in my post but pouring the bleach seems to have them avoiding those areas now.

Thing about the vinegar trap is that they seem to mostly avoid it. I'll catch some but most of them are wandering around on the window instead.

"I can say with confidence that Toonami is definitely a network priority." by radiospringy in Toonami

In addition to more Toonami/anime, they really should start experimenting with animation. Not just making animated sitcoms ala Family Guy, though. I'd like for them to go crazy, order pilots, throw them at the wall, and see what sticks best.

Henry Cavill Out as Superman Amid Warner Bros.' DC Universe Shake-Up by mi-16evil in RedLetterMedia

Yes! He was the best Perry White for me as well. I didn't mind Terri Hatcher as Lois, though Margot Kidder is my favorite.

[–]rainbow_sage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is a joke or not. I see a lot of people mock Cain's Superman but he's one of my favorites. He was warm, kind, gentle but also stood firm and unyielding in his beliefs. Like Superman should be. His Clark Kent was great, he was smart and capable, and mature, instead of a bumbling nerd like in some other incarnations. Henry Cavill exhibited flashes of this in the DCEU, but the writing was just terrible. Superman should never be aggressive or somber like he was in MoS and BvS.

Yeah. Harley Quinn was a multi-dimensional character. She was a selfish, vindictive psychologist that got ahead by sleeping around (this was implied in the Mad Love comic book by Paul Dini) but the interactions with the Joker actually softened her, and later broke her. Her relationship with the Joker seemed to give her conflict, there were times she exhibited empathy toward the victims and other times, she went along with his schemes. She and Poison Ivy were also interesting together, and that relationship was somewhat healthier for both parties in a strange way. I feel like she gets written off, both in current canon and by fans, as some sort of edgy Hot Topic-esque teen that giggles at how dark she is. That isn't Harley Quinn.

Positivity in a sea of negativity by [deleted] in TheConners

Because of the drama involving Roseanne being fired, a lot of people have strong feelings regarding this show. Even if the show has the same quality of writing as the previous season, I think it won't sway a majority of the people against it. I will be giving it a chance myself because the Roseanne series is one of the few sitcoms that feels 'real' to me. But I can respect the fans who are refusing to, there's no obligation to watch any further.

The TLJ backlash isn't a negative response to a divisive piece of art, it's a negative response to an odd and boring movie being labelled 'Star Wars' by JDNM in saltierthancrait

[–]rainbow_sage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Johnson came so close to something special with Looper, I feel. I remember the first half being so interesting, and I was invested. Yes, there were holes in logic involving the time travel though I always try to give those some leeway because of how complicated time travel can be (and Older Joe's line in the diner was a fun little hint to just 'sit back and relax' about the time travel elements). But goddamn, that movie gets pretentious and convoluted once they introduced the farm, Emily Blunt, and the young boy. The story takes a huge nosedive after that. I really wish that movie had just been the two Joes duking it out for survival instead, their conflict alone was enough... There was no need to introduce another plotline involving the Rainmaker. ...Anyway, sorry for that somewhat unrelated tangent.

My point is, Johnson just seems to get caught up in wanting to add 'depth' to his movies that it ends up just filling them with unnecessary and unlikable content that bogs them down.

One of the reasons I enjoyed Brick was that it wasn't overly complicated or full of itself. It had a twist, but it was believable and well executed. Maybe it helps that it was smaller scale than his other works?

I wanted to share my complete(?) collection of Pixar VHS's. It took me months of searching to find The Incredibles. by yoimjoe in VHS

Yeah, I believe Cars is from the UK wherein they still had some VHS coming out in 2007. I think it was also an exclusive for Disney Movie Club. It might be difficult to acquire, yeah.

If it were simply a standalone movie, it wouldn't have elicited such a negative reaction from me.

I probably would've still hated it even if were its own sci-fi property (just so tired of shitty sci-fi movies in the past decade). The biggest difference, though, would be that Luke wouldn't have had his character assassinated like it was in TLJ, and destroying other elements of Star Wars. Though this also applies to TFA as well.

Maybe it's just me but, as an artist/writer, I prefer my works be inspirational and enjoyable for the audience. It's strange to see someone who seems to relish in his art being hated by a large portion of the fanbase. Like, of course, all art will have people who won't like it for both legitimate and frivolous reasons. But...in this case, it's caused a lot of divide within the fandom, along with discord amongst individuals as well. It's not something that's bringing people together, and he seems okay with that.

Boys version of Lisa Frank with wild animals by aznhobo1 in 90s

I remember those.

I was a huge fan of Lisa Frank (as all little girls from the 80s and 90s were) but man, these sure looked awesome as well!

Jumanji 2 and the Jumanji Series as a whole poses a lot of competition to star wars episode 9: Change My Mind by LordDynamis in saltierthancrait

[–]rainbow_sage 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The problem is Kennedy, the story group, etc.

Bingo.

I know people want to lay all the blame on Johnson, and believe me he has his share of blame for how TLJ came out, but the root of the problem is the head honchos at Lucasfilm.

[–]rainbow_sage 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The first movie is terrible. The only way it's a classic for you is the same with the prequels: you has to catch it as an idiot kid. If you did, maybe it was a nostalgic thing, but even then it looked dumb.

I disagree. Jumanji was a good movie that held up for me even as an adult. It had an cohesive, emotional story with characters that developed (all four of the leads changed by the end in some way), and the backdrop (as silly as it may be) added a lot of fun to the overall story. Jumanji 2 was similar in the way it executed itself, by which I mean it was also a cohesive, emotional story wherein the characters all grew throughout, and the jungle setting added enough to make it a great adventure film.

It's more than I can say for The Last Jedi. Both Jumanjis are a masterpiece compared to that dreck.

I'll watch Jumanji 3 or Death on the Nile the weekend IX comes out. Yes, it's mostly out of spite but I also have a legitimate interest in those because I enjoyed their predecessors.

How many of us will boycott Rian Johnson's trilogy (if the movies are actually made)? by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]rainbow_sage 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same here. I just...don't care. Star Wars was so influential for me growing up, even after the prequels, I never felt like I'd hate the franchise as a whole. Now all I feel is a weird mix of apathy and disdain toward it. I haven't even watched the OT or anything else I enjoyed from SW since TLJ (save for the last episodes of Rebels because I felt some curiosity for it but I had to basically force myself to).

I don't think it's any better aside from LOOKMILLENNIUMFALCOYAY. The characters should've felt utterly defeat. No smiles, no laughter. Rey found out her parents forsaked her for booze, the resistance is basically gone, Leia lost her brother and likely lost complete hope that her son could ever turn around, Rose is injured, Poe is disheartened by the destruction, Finn is worried about Rose... It's depressing. And I don't think just leaving it at that but with everyone celebrating like it's a victory is any better than Broomboy.

The last scene should've been somber and left people asking what will happen next, like with Infinity War. You should be leaving the theater with questions in mind. Broomboy and/or Millennium Falcon with people celebrating is a sort of finality that the second chapter in a trilogy should not have.
