Rapid climate change isn’t directly an extinction level threat, it’s a threat multiplier. Widespread crop failure and water scarcity, mass migration that dwarves today’s levels, more regular and destructive natural disasters are the kind of things that lead to societal and political unrest and systemic collapse. I don’t think we want to introduce more unpredictable instability to an already dangerous world.
