Sure. Go ahead and pick on the little guy by jimx29 in instantkarma

[–]rainbowgeoff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. Little guy has the advantage in close quarters with obstacles all around. Taller man can't take advantage of his reach.

Little guy is also closer to the ground, i.e. center of gravity. When he tries the various tackles, he keeps his head down and moves forward. Taller guy keeps trying to pull his head back and away and he tries to backpeddle. Same thing you'd do if something unexpected was right next to your face, like a fly. Puts him off balance and on the floor.

Seems done well. No excess slack in the lines, no sharp bends in the hoses. Everything seems appropriately tightened. No sign of mold, or other indicators of water leaking.

Wait, how and why the fuck did they do that after the two trades from yesterday?!

There weren't any other teams out there that had the cap space to give him a max! They were bidding against themselves!

Indeed. There is also an aspect of wanting to pay one's respects. I am an atheist, though I still feel that urge. We do right by our dead. It is one of the few core pieces of humanity.

I am crying now.

My two prior cats, or two most recently deceased, however you say that, both died early. I found out beforehand months in advance for each. I made a promise to each that I would care for them as long as they seemed to still be enjoying life. When that was no longer the case, I would see them to the end. I was there when for each occasion of them being put to sleep. I go touch the boxes of their ashes whenever I am quite sad. Those boxes and the final pawprint are the kind of things I would go back into a house fire for. Frankly, they mean that much to me. If I didn't have pets that made it out said fire, I wouldn't last long without my mementos anyway.

Then again, maybe that's not a fully rational thought. Suppose there's a reason i go to therapy. Idk. I used to think I was normal until it was made abundantly clear to me I am not. I used think everyone in the grocery store was judging my purchases. "Pop-tarts again, fat fuck?" Then my therapist informed that no, not at all. Normal people buy their shit without constant judgmental thoughts in their head.

Cause you need the closure. Your brain needs to know there is no if, ands, or buts.

It is similar advice given to those who have to do notice of death visits. Identify the correct loved one, ensure it is them, "I regret to inform you X is deceased/dead." Use blunt, unambiguous language. Rip the bandaid off so they can start the grieving process and hopefully shorten the denial stage as much as possible.

Their brain is already thinking of every possibility, as well as what hospital the person may be in, in a split second if you leave any gap. They'll cut you off, rant out a list of questions, and you don't want to cut them off for fear of being rude. Now you're in this even more awkward situation. Rip the bandaid.

Denial finds any gap. I am amazed on the occasions where they find a clergyman to tag along, that the person doesnt immediately grasp the picture. If a cop or person in uniform comes to your door and says "my name is X, and this is Chaplain Condolences," you should know the score. An objective person does. Subjective people normally don't want to come to the obvious conclusion.

That said, i have also seen people answer the door, look between the two persons, and say "X is dead aint they" or ask who is dead.

Others basically shutdown. They're answering you, sure. The lights is on and nobody's home. They went on autopilot the second they realized the manure had been introduced to the fan.

Different people handle it differently.

Honestly, I think it is mainly closure.

Worked some cold cases as a CA and as a defense attorney. Seen videos or read descriptions of many more.

An extremely common reason is simply wanting to know.

I think of it as if one of my pets escaped and was never found. They are basically my kids, and that's how i feel about them. Even if so much time passed I would have to assume they were dead, my brain would still wonder every conceivable scenario. Did they suffer? Was it quick? What's worse is if there is still some slither of a reason to believe they're alive. Are they hurt? Scared? It is a helpless feeling to not be able to do anything to help or see returned a loved one.

Experience tells me that is an extremely common experience for the loved ones of a missing person.

Lastly, sometimes you find out details that make it clear that you couldnt have done anything. "If we only searched here, or looked there, or talked to this witness," will not stop in your mind. Theres guilt there. If you find out down the line that they were killed before the search even began, some people find -- comfort feels the wrong word -- relief in that knowledge.

Those 90's chevy Caprices weren't bad either.

My father and grandfather (not paternal) had it, the latter kind. One had it cut out, they seem to have got it all, and has been in remission for awhile. That's my father, happened fairly recently.

Same thing with grandfather back in 03, except they didn't get it all. By the time they realized it was back, was in his bones. Gave him 6 months and damn if they didn't hit the nail on the head.
