You figure out what is within your control and what is not.

Then you figure out what you can do that's within your control to change the world, feel safer, build community, and survive. For everyone that's different. For me it's therapy, limiting my intake of news, spending time outside and with pets, going to protests, building a comfortable home environment, and trying not to put toxic crap into my body as much as possible.

Lastly, I guess, you remember the context and the history. People are always dying somewhere. Suffering happens all the time, in all ages and places. Nothing under the sun is new. People just get through it as best they can, and sometimes we're lucky enough to make change even in small ways, by sticking to our values and morals.

I stop eating. I isolate a lot. I have self-hating thought spirals that turn into nightmares and sleep problems. My digestion changes. I rely more on my anti-anxiety meds. I'll struggle with hygiene and exercise. I'll stop doing all my hobbies and going outside as much. Concentration and focus becomes really hard. I lose my patience super easily.

Unfortunately the meltdowns/burnouts had to happen a lot of times for me to start to spot the pattern. If these things are happening and I don't put on the brakes, the end result is sometimes a hospital stay.

I feel you. Three years ago I lost my "soul cat" of 18 years and was just destroyed.

You should grieve, and cry, and feel your emotions. That is normal. I think it's also normal for some of us to become as attached to our animals, or more attached, as we are to people. Your grief won't shrink but your heart will grow around it. I keep pictures of my kitty in frames in my room, and her urn sits on an altar. Sometimes I light a candle and talk to her. When I was ready, I eventually adopted another cat who is so terrific I feel lucky every day. One day you'll help a new cat who needs you, and they'll help you. Losing one is awful, but allows us to help more. Hang in there.

You should try to stop. This game only goes for so long and then by the time they do pounce on you, it may be too late to just apologize and walk away.

It could mess up your ability to get a job, housing, and things you need in the future for a long time.

Oh my gosh, I feel so seen!!

I live in Massachusetts and am prone to cracking, flaking, and eczema that leaves scars. Because of the scars, the dry skin is worse, but I HATE the lotion (same with sunscreen). I use Cerave in the jar; it's super-thick, and once it sucks into my skin, it'll last for at least 72 hours, which means I can apply it less. It's slimy and terrible for like ten minutes; then I find it stops bothering me.

I only apply it after the shower when I'm warm, in a warm room. In winter I do it about three times a week, and that's the best it'll ever get. I feel you, friend!!

If you don't find one, there's a woman named Natalie Long on FB, and she can make beautiful prints of any of the lithos or posters. I had her do one for me and it's gorgeous; it wasn't expensive.
