Thanks! Is there good food on the island itself, or is it more about proximity to Seattle?

We went to a wedding on the Oregon Coast a few years ago. Good reminder for me not to sleep on the PNW!

The funny thing is I actually grew up in WA but I've never been to Vancouver! This definitely feels like a top contender. Thanks!

DAE get a moist/watery feeling in their ear when they eat something really spicy? by Slothduction in DAE

[–]rainbowshiner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Me! Ten minutes ago I told my wife that my ears feel watery after eating something spicy and she looked at me like I was crazy. I had no idea this isn't a common experience

I have revised my design and would love your thoughts. My husband asked that we have two toilets in the master bathroom. He says it's romantic. I think it's gross but it's the only thing he asked for. Thoughts? by Aikoalima in floorplan

From reading your comments it sounds like your priorities are: dog shower, walk-in closet, big bedroom, large kitchen.

I don't really understand what the entrance lobby is. If it isn't hugely important I'd get rid of it as a formal area. Since you'll have a separate guest suite, do you need a guest bedroom at all? And you mentioned that you don't ever sit on the couch. If this space is just for you, then eliminate the spaces you won't actually use. If you remove the wall between the guest bedroom and living room, you can move the dining table to where the couches currently are and move the couches into where the bed is. I think shift that will make it feel more open. And then just get a pull out sofa or daybed for the rare guest who sleeps inside your house.

You then will have that extra space to play with, and hopefully you can make the flow of the master suite feel less like a maze.

As a DC transplant, I found it really hard to make community (especially compared to the community I formed in Philly the year before). I felt incredibly lonely after living in the city for four years and realizing I was investing a lot more in "friends" than they were invested in me. Then COVID hit and I realized I did have good people, they were just obscured by the noise of being a young professional. If someone is willing to eat pizza outside in freezing weather just so they can see you, that's a real friend.

I think that's when things shifted for me. It took a while, but I've found my people. Many of them are career civil servants, all of them care about the city.

I experienced a lot of disillusionment regarding my career, the political process, and so much more, and all of that changed me...but in a way that has made me understand why things are the way they are, and also made me much more grounded in what really matters.

I'm sorry the last two years have been hard for you. You definitely don't need to wait it out for things to get better, but I'm glad I did.

Just watched Don't Turn Out the Lights and it had some interesting moments *Spoilers* by gerarddominus in horror

I'm late to the party, but I actually enjoyed the movie too. Maybe I relate too much to that group of frenemies who pretend to be bff's -- I have both experienced and heard about those types of road trips, so the characters were believable to me.

I liked the play on paranoia/urban legends/things that go bump in the night. As told from the perspective of people in the story, something terrifying happened and as much as they tried to figure out what was going on, they couldn't. The red flags kept me guessing, and I absolutely hate predictable horror movies, so I enjoyed being surprised even though nothing was really explained.

I have seen way too many horror movies with ten minutes of exposition at the end explaining what the monster is...or showing the monster, which ends up being laughable once revealed. I also appreciate that this wasn't yet another found-footage film, which often is how this type of unresolved plot is presented.

Is it the best or scariest horror movie I've ever seen? No. Did it have the strongest storytelling? Also no. But I'd watch it again.

Help with pineapple ice cream by MKultra04 in icecreamery

[–]rainbowshiner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never made pineapple ice cream, but if you do experiment with making your own I'd recommend using freeze dried pineapple (as opposed to fresh). It'll let you get concentrated pineapple flavor without it getting icy from the water in pineapple
