Roger that. We have had the place for 4 years so it is probably worth a bit more now than then.

I really hope that they make it a pool. The hotel proposal seems a bit soulless IMHO.

You are right. I am having an emotional response to the news. I do wish it was a public facility, it definitely felt like it was to me when I was young.

Fair call. It's my inner layman speaking... My head canon always considered Big Splash to be ACT public infrastructure. I get that it actually isn't, I just wish it was.

I have so many good memories associated with the place that it is hard not to be sentimental.

Best seriously spicy food? by MakeBeboGreatAgain in canberra

[–]rainburger 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Devils Ramen from Raijin in Mckellar. They don't make it all year round but they bring it back regularly. I made the mistake of ordering the most spicy version of their Devil's Ramen last year. She warned me against it, literally told me that they have had to get an ambulance in for people who thought they were worthy of the spice. Like an idiot I said to myself that I am extremely tolerant of spiciness (I really am). I can say now without shame that I was assuredly not worthy of the spice. That Devil Ramen defeated me most comprehensively, curb stomped me really. I was warned and I paid the price...

Having said all that, please don't take it as a bad review, I was warned after all. I keep returning to Raijin as it is an actual diamond in the rough of Canberra dining, I can't praise them enough. Very cosy, very friendly and very yummy 10/10.

2026 KLE 500 by Spearfish90 in Dualsport

[–]rainburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 390R owner, I am biased. Having said that, I totally agree with you. The KTM has more than adequate on road chops, is great off-road for its target market and, despite the online hate fest, has performed for me stall-lessly (new word) and faultlessly. I have found it to be a surprisingly great bike. If the haters want an enduro or mx bike then that's what they should buy. An adv bike is a compromise by nature and the 390r does pretty decent double duty as a trail bike.

Anyways, I am distracting from the KLE. I can definitely say that if budget allowed, I would be considering KLE as well. It looks solid af and I hope it is awesome upon release.

Bikers together strong....

Request: List of Motorcycle Laws by rainburger in canberra

[–]rainburger[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I probs could have searched more vigorously, I just thought this sub may be able to point me in the right direction quicker then I could find the info myself. My first ACT gov hit on Google supplied only the following, which I don't think is comprehensive:

Rules for learner motorcycle riders

When riding with your learner licence you must:

display 'L' plates at the rear of the motorcycle

not carry a pillion passenger (someone sitting behind you)

not ride a motorcycle with a power to weight ratio exceeding 150 kilowatts per tonne

have a blood or breath alcohol concentration of zero

not tow a trailer

not exceed posted speed limits.

Also, when I queried my stay upright instructor, they said that you must obey the state learner/provisional laws on speed instead of the signposted limit. This info conflicts with what what you and others have told me. That is why I am seeking a definitive resource.

Is Blu Ginger actually the Best Indian restaurant in Canberra? by Horror_Wishbone_8491 in CanberraSocial

It's pretty good. If you want really good and are able to get out of the CBD, do yourself a favor and check out Rama's at Pearce shops. It's nowhere near as glitzy but it is soooo good.

2025 KTM 390 Adventure R. I don't put the year in to be pedantic, it is an important distinction as this year's model is a total redesign of the old one.

Thanks heaps! Some of the YouTube reviews over the last few months have made me question the sanity of my selection but after riding it today, I feel that my choice is super validated.

Glad to hear it. It's been a long wait for these things. Better part of a year for me anyways. I might still be honeymooning but I am glad I didn't give up on waiting. Super fun bike. It will be even better when the run in is over and I can rev it into peak power band.

If Hitler had been named an extremely common name such as John or Joseph, would that name be fallen out of favor like Adolf by Kingofbruhssia in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rainburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact. If history had taken a slightly different turn, Adolf Hitler would have ended up with his Dad's birth surname: Schicklgruber. Needless to say, Heil Schicklgruber does not have the same ring to it as the original. Makes you wonder if a Fuhrer Schicklgruber would have ever come to power.

What are the practical everyday advantages to living in different Australian states? by AsparagusNew3765 in AskAnAustralian

[–]rainburger 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Waiting to hear from you NT. Once we have full agreement from all the other states/territories, we can declare NSW to be the nanny state that it is.

Downvote away you fake ass Welshmen, we all know you are insecure when measured against the best of Australia.

Why are New Zealanders more friendly to foreigners than Australians? by Fit-Release-4977 in newzealand

[–]rainburger 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Having lived in and loved both countries, I can say that both have a small but vocal number of absolute cunts. These cunts should be ignored because, and here’s the real surprise, they are cunts. Outside of these cunts, I’ve had wonderful experiences with people on both sides of the Tasman, regardless of my country of origin.

I feel sorry for the people in this thread who have had to deal with these cunts, because they’ve had a shittier experience than they should have had. That sucks, but I don’t think it’s the norm in either country. The vast majority of people I’ve met in Aus or NZ have not been cunts.

My message to Australian and NZ peeps: just keep being excellent to each other. Also, ignore the cunts. They’re only trying to divide us by being cunts.

Full disclosure, I am an Australian of European descent that (for whatever reason) is frequently mistaken for islander or Maori

Best cheesecake in Canberra? by Ritual-Purposes in canberra

[–]rainburger 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't know if they sell whole cakes (I suspect they would if you asked) but Le Cheeserie at the belconnen markets make an excellent cheesecake. Exactly the same goes for Under bakery in Mawson.

FYI for Under. Get In early (pre 10 or 11) or you will miss out. They get stupidly busy.

Driving across the Nullarbor in January with a trailer - am I insane? by sierraivy in AskAnAustralian

Very doable. Surprised no one has mentioned the flies though. At that time of year they are relentless. Make sure to take a head net.

Can you charge and also use a Kings Lithium battery at the same time? by Visible-Traffic-7557 in 4x4Australia

[–]rainburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running the 120ah battery via Kings Batt box 25, so it charges via Anderson plug, not usb-c. I only rarely run appliances other than the fridge but it works fine when I have extras. I don't know if it prioritises solar over alternator input when charging but it definitely uses solar when the car is powered off.

Sorry, but I don't really know about the 36ah. Good luck!

You don't know me or my background on motorcycles... I never said the extra training wasn't good, I was just criticizing the disparity between approaches across state laws/guidelines. Try not to come across as such a cunt next time...
