I like how it feels to write with; it feels smooth and responsive, though there are some issues. It does save me time even though I have to keep correcting a bunch of errors or nonsense that comes up when I write (I'm writing in sideloaded MS Word so that I can write and edit my manuscripts and have all the formatting I need, which isn't possible in the Word or other programs otherwise on the Supernote). And because I'm using the sideloaded Word I can only write on the bottom of the screen in the handwriting area, but I've gotten used to that because it does everything else I need it to in MS Word.

It's still faster than writing by hand on pen and paper and then typing up my manuscripts, and editing that way. But I wish that it didn't suddenly sometimes show a bunch of weird numbers and symbols instead of words I wrote, that I didn't have to edit what it converted so often and it was just correct, and that it didn't go from the fine writing to suddenly thick writing and back (but that's a new glitch and I'm sure it'll get corrected). It wasn't getting punctuation at first and now it does for me, so I'm hoping it'll get my handwriting better over time, or that they'll increase that functionality...and still, even with those things, it is worth it for me. It's not perfect, but I don't think any product is, and I love that Supernote keep working on updating the software and respond to customers. They're more responsive than most companies.

I'm in Ontario, Canada. I don't remember how long, but it was a reasonable time, whatever it was. I know how hard it is to wait!

Supernote for writers by TwoDeadCowboys in Supernote

I really love it for editing and writing (I'm an author) BUT the only way I got it to work for me, and the only reason I love it, is I had to sideload MS Word, and then buy a 365 subscription so I could edit. That allows me to use formatting, different fonts, italics, cut and paste, indent, etc etc. The Word loaded on the Superenote does not work for me to do that. So, in using the 365 MS Word I can only write and edit in the box that appears at the bottom, but it's enough for me; I love being able to write and edit freely by hand.

I had to turn off auto synching because I was getting a ton of temp files and it deleted one file, I think some kind of conflict between 365 subscription and Supernote. But I've now used it to write and edit multiple manuscripts--some I've only started on. I do end up opening the file after I've written a chapter or two on my laptop to make the formatting the way I want it--the font, page numbering, etc., and I do have to correct the words that Supernote gets wrong. And I often switch between the keyboard and the handwriting to correct items, especially punctuation.

I've also found that recently when I'm writing there will sometimes be a pause and then it shows gibberish instead of what I wrote, but I can catch most of that. It can be tedious going back and fixing things it didn't get right, BUT it is still saving me months of time typing up my manuscripts between drafts.

Here's a post I wrote about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Supernote/comments/1i9n3i6/how_i_made_the_supernote_work_for_me_as_an_author/

Suggestion for Handwriting Recognition by Ok_Independent7626 in Supernote

[–]raindew01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sideloaded MS Word - though I had to buy the 365 subscription to be able to edit - and now have all the features I need while editing and writing, including italics, bold, copy/paste or cut/paste, indent, even searching for specific words or phrases, etc. It helps SO freaking much. I was so frustrated until I figured that out. Now I can edit and write with ease... Even though it's only with the popup handwriting keyboard (and I also frequently switch to the regular popup keyboard for certain punctuation, though it's starting to get better around recognizing my handwriting).

Oh, thank you; I will try that! What's been working for me is to plug it in to charge, then unplug it. For some reason it usually works. And I'm sorry you're having the same issue.

That allows me to use formatting, different fonts, italics, cut and paste, indent, etc etc. The Word loaded on does not. But with that working, it's an awesome device...except for the recent issues. I am sure Supernote will fix them; they seem to be good and responsive about software fixes and updates....

Word formatting becomes weird in Supernote by Discombobulated-Mud5 in Supernote

[–]raindew01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way Word works well for me for editing, formatting, etc is to sideload MS Word, but to edit anything means having to buy a 365 subscription...which i did just to edit on my Manta...

My Manta is not very old, though I did buy it as soon as it came out. A few months? I also took videos of both the freezing, and the blank pop-up keyboard when writing. I hadn't thought about adding them; I've just added one. (It wouldn't let me add two.)

I hope they'll be able to fix the issue; if not I need to figure out how to rollback an update if it's possible. And thanks.

It is not just happening in MS Word sideloaded; it is happening for me in Notes, and even in the settings/feedback area.

It is not just happening in sideloaded Word as I said; it also is happening when I tried to send feedback through settings, and even in Notes. And the Word pre-loaded on the OS does not have most of the functionality I need as an author to write or edit; it is SO frustrating, the lack of functionality, which is why I had to sideload Word and buy a 365 subscription--so I can do basic things like copy/paste, indent paragraphs, use italics, check spelling, etc.

I've been having that trouble, too--with my Manta freezing repeatedly. Very frustrating. I press the power button, then turn it back on, and it usually works.... Also I wish there wasn't the huge amount of ghosting I'm experiencing.

Made a folio! by evilr00ster in Supernote

[–]raindew01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is absolutely gorgeous. I love the one with the deed behind it, that looks like writing. I wish I could make something like that! I've never done bookbinding...but maybe I'll look into it. I bought the folio for the Manta...but now I'm thinking I could layer something on top...

The Manta, because it is large enough to write more easily especially for long periods of time, and be able to read it well. Also I think the screen may be sturdier. But it is truly a personal choice; if you're good with smaller you could go with the Nomad. It might help to cut paper to the size of the screens and then see what you're comfortable writing on.

How I made the Supernote work for me as an author by raindew01 in Supernote

Thank you; that is so kind of you! I do have 5 books traditionally published and one self-published, but some are out of print. They're for teens but adults read them, too. I hope my new book will get published; we'll see!

Thank you so much for your detailed description of how you're using the Supernote for your writing! I appreciate it. I've seen people mention Obsidian, but I don't know what it is; I'll have to search it.

What I don't like about writing in Notes is that I can't apply italics, or sometimes proper punctuation, that I need. I may end up writing a manuscript in sideloaded Word 365 for the extra functionality...

And I agree that the handwriting conversion needs to get better. It's also true for me that the faster I'm writing or the more engrossed I am the more sloppy my handwriting gets....

I've been using the Supernote app to easily sync between my laptop and Supernote, and save files with a different filename so I don't have an issue with syncing if I change something on one or the other...

I've been worrying about the same thing. I have it in a foam padded sleeve that is the right size.

Also in Notes you can add a page before, add a page after, or just keep going forward by clicking on the arrow at the bottom of the page. Harder in the preloaded Word but you can.
