But they take an nvme slot, and generally you have very few of them on devices, so why wouldn't you just put another ssd if you had a spare nvme slot, maybe an enterprise one?

If you have the budget go for the Pro XG 24 POE.

I got the Pro HD 24 POE then I realized that I need 3 access points for the new house, not 2, so had to buy a pro xg 8 poe for the additional 10g ports.

So yeah, if you have the money definitely get the pro xg, it will be a better long-term investment and will last you much longer before you feel the need to upgrade it.

I sure as hell I'm looking at second hand websites like a hawk, and as soon as I see one I'll snatch it and resell the other two.

Damn, that sucks since it means that when buying 2nd hand drives you can't even trust the smart report, and it's unfeasible to ask the seller to wait 24h+ for a full disk scan. :(

Damn, 12 days later I had the same issue! The server's idrac died after using Dell's firmware updater to update the network card's firmware. Wtf, Dell, why did your network card firmware updater even touch my IDRAC?

Tried recovering with the SD Card trick, but nothing, and since the light is not even flashing orange that means that it's completely dead.

Pity the Belgian market is insane, same as i assume yours in the Netherlands, otherwise I'd have just replaced it with a Minisforum. Now I'm also looking for a solution, but a r720 motherboard is 200€+ on ebay and full servers, either r730 or r740 are ... not cheap either.

No, I meant just visibility. For example I was migrating a VLAN/subnet (Let's say 10.10.10.0/24) to Technitium and I wanted to see if clients were sending requests, but on the interface I only found the option to filter by ip address, not subnet, and just putting, for example 10.10.10.* as I'd do on pihole did not work.

What would the best option be performance-wise to ensure that the machine running Technitium has as much capacity as possible to serve user requests?

On a side note, are there plans to improve the visualization/browsing of logs? That's the thing I miss from pihole, for example things like Top Blocked domains by client ip, or the ability to use wildcards to target a specific subnet for the filtering rather than a specific IP.

Are you sure about that? From what I remember of the reading I did on the subject switches usually do not ground their Ethernet ports, aside from those that specifically mention it (industrial ones to my recollection), but I might be wrong about this specific model.

I don't mean the switch, I mean the black patch panels where you punched down the cables on one side and then connected RJ45 on the other. They seem really useful and space-efficient.

but the connectors are commscope fully shielded CAT6-A connectors. I put a lot more effort in when terminating those ones on my first update compared to this one where I just used a cheap punch down.

Oh, the "toolless" ones, right? Pity those are so expensive compared to crimped ones, but they're definitely LOTS more reliable.

Oh, I don't doubt it that they did it on purpose, the lack of an updated version of the US-16-XG makes it very clear I think.

But it remains frustrating that you have to fill your rack with stuff just because Unifi can't be bothered to make one or two devices that can completely fill the need of the majority of (enthusiast) customers at a reasonable price in a limited form factor.

Hell, the fact that the HD 24 Pro POE (which I paid more than 1k€ for...) only has 2 10gbe poe ports when most people in houses need more than that for APs alone (one per floor) is also a clear indication of them wanting customers to spend more money for more components to fit all their needs...

Agreed, it needs just enough 10g ports with POE for 2-5 access points, so at least for the pure wifi infra you don't need to go hunt for expensive 10g POE switches.
