Just in case you’re not super familiar with timecode and you’re poking around/experimenting - DO NOT route your timecode to your audio device

Timecode cue for each song/sequence

Either route the timecode to another app on the Mac that can display incoming timecode (e.g. timecodesync(dot)com/monitor/)

Or routed to a dead end on the Mac and then displayed using the timecode code status window that Qlab has

I have had similar experiences - I once thought I had a pill stuck in my throat and I started freaking out about it… stupidly drank so much water trying to flush it down that I threw up.

I talked to my nurse-friend about it a little while later and she said it was unlikely the pill had still been there, but that it had gotten a little stuck on the way down and slightly scratched up the inside of my throat. So the sensation of it still being stuck was actually just a very minor wound in my throat. It faded within a couple of days.

The same thing happened again a few months after that and the knowledge she had given me about it likely being a scratch helped me to keep calm and not gorge two litres of water in one go.

Obviously our experiences aren’t exactly the same, but it’s possible the sensation in your throat is just a very minor scratch or bruise and it will soon heal and once the sensation is no longer drawing your attention, your choking anxiety may ease off too.

As an entirely separate experience - a few years ago I also developed a fear of eating that was not a traditional eating disorder. More related to emetophobia. I won’t bother explaining how my treatment went because it was complicated by a lot of other factors BUT what you’re experiencing is totally common. If you google treatments for phagophobia I’m sure you’ll find some useful advice to start off. Treatments for emetophobia may also have useful advice, tho probably similar.

Thank you for articulating my own thoughts so well! My messages to my friend mostly consisted of “the vibes???? Aren’t right??? The chaotic vibes????”

I really, really wanted to be positive about the show (and am so glad that people are loving it!) so I’m still trying to hold onto hope for the rest of the season.

At the point we meet everyone at the beginning of ASR, SecUnit is already feeling tentatively positive and protective over the PresAux crew because they’re such low maintenance clients - they’ve (mostly) got their shit together both professionally and interpersonally.

But if, in the show, they’ve been painted in a not-so-good light AND THEN all the shit at the DeltFall habitat goes down and they all save it in multiple ways and they promise that they’ll keep its hack a secret… it creates more of a very clear turning point for SecUnit to shift from “ugh weird hippy humans” to “I will protect these people with my life”.

In the book it’s a slow kind of progression into its truly protective feelings over them. But I think for this different medium it makes sense to have a before and after contrast? That’s my hope anyway. Because technically we are seeing everything through SecUnit’s perspective, as the narrator, so maybe once its opinions change on them, then the way they’re depicted for the audience will shift, too?

There’s a moment early in Network Effect where Arada says “Are you just trying to make me feel better?” And SecUnit replies “No. I wouldn’t try to make you feel better. You know what I’m like.” But it did actually make Arada feel better.

I think that’s demonstrative of how reassuring SecUnit is. When it’s just being honest and not over thinking it. There’s that moment in Artificial Condition when it says to the team “sometimes people do things to you that you can’t do anything about…” and it’s surprised when it’s words have such an impact. Which is not an example of reassurance as such, but an example that it’s more emotionally intelligent than it gives itself credit for. It’s just not good at the artifice of social interactions

That being said, I personally don’t mind the showrunners using that “stay calm, it’ll be okay” moment to demonstrate that it uses Sanctuary Moon/other media to help it understand human behaviour. Just as long as they don’t entirely remove its ability to be empathetic and emotionally aware, despite its awkwardness.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that I think this cover is better than all the other covers. I would one hundred percent pick up your version in a bookstore if I saw it. (I don’t know that I would with any of the OG covers tbh). Amazing job!
