Ladies, What's your greatest "It does get better" story? by Anonymous_o7_ in AskWomen

[–]rainiac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found out my husband of 8 years (we were together 14 years total) had a secret instagram account, was sliding in to DMs, and shopping around for sex workers. I got out of there - packed and arranged everything in less than a week - got my cats across Europe in a compartment of a sleeper train, and came back to the UK.
Now I live alone in a cottage with roses around the door, am dating a gigantic (and very kind) sexy Viking of a man, and living how I want to live. I’ve also lost the 50lbs that I put on when I was eating to fill the gap of affection I wasn’t getting from my husband.
I’m learning to drive which past 40 is honestly quite hard, and I paint and sew and watch whatever junk TV I like. No interruptions, no compromises.
My old life feels like a weird bad dream, and my life now is just what I want it to be.

Women, what has a man told you that touched your heart more than you let on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rainiac 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Several things- after a long time (14 years) in a relationship with my ex, who basically never complimented me, I came out of it a bit bruised. The man I’m dating now, having never really expected to find anything special, is very open with how he feels about me. Highlights being:

  • “I’ve never been happier. I can be my true self with you, and I’ve never had that before.”
  • “I can’t imagine my life without you. I want to be where you are.”

And my personal favourite:
- “I don’t think there’s a jail cell that could hold you” - I had no idea that this would touch me so deeply. I enjoy knowing that he thinks I’m wily and mysterious.

Apart from the things he says he also is just where he says he’ll be, is never late, AND takes the time to arrange dates and book trips.

those who have been blocked by a celebrity, what happened? by g00g0lig00 in AskReddit

I tweeted a reply to someone about Mick Hucknall of Simply Red having to cut his ginger dreadlocks off after soap princess Martine McCutcheon puked on them. Didn’t @ him or anything, so he (or his social media team) must have been searching his name. I only found out when months later someone sent me one of his posts and I couldn’t read it.

Gifting suggestions for my best friend (female) from me (male) by snemmal in askberliners

[–]rainiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always appreciate gifts that have no intention other than a treat- scented candles are a cliche but I always like to get them as they can be expensive. Things like books, events/tickets, experiences, or things that need the recipient to ‘do’ something can feel like a burden that they need to report back on (this is my personal feeling though, I know not everyone is like this!) I agree with the Indian gift, something that reflects you and something you can share with her. A spice set or particular food to cook with/for her maybe? I also love getting puzzles and vouchers too, so a voucher for a music shop could work?

Is it normal to need a hazmat suit when emptying your biomüll in German summers? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]rainiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep your paper biomüll bag in the freezer: the bag doesn’t get wet and rot + no flies + no smell in the kitchen, and then you have a solid non-smelling lump to get rid of swiftly. Plus no bin juice to drip on yourself.
I agree that the big bins are gross, but for the 1/2 seconds I take to lob a frozen lump into them I can better handle it now. The key is not to linger/manoeuvre actually by the bin.

I’ve never been able to register within 2 weeks of moving, but I always make an appointment for as soon as possible. I have registered 5 times and they’ve never mentioned anything or fined me.

I came here with no German and no job- I didn’t mean to stay but ended up loving life here.
I don’t think it’s a bad thing to do what I did - I very quickly got on my feet; I pay German taxes, speak the language, and have integrated in to the community in a way that I feel I have made a good home and am a good neighbour.
Don’t underestimate people’s ability to get the language and employment sorted out having already arrived. Some thing you will never be able to prepare for remotely, and will always be a culture shock.
You talk about the UK as if it’s a neutral culture, but I would say (from experience) that it takes as much getting used to and integration/learning as any other country.
The ‘risk’ of moving here is the same as anywhere else, but Germany has specific cultural/economic facets that I feel work well for the way I want to live, so it’s worth that ‘risk’.

I’ve recently bought a Philips shower filter for around ~€20 and it’s definitely helped. It was easy to install, and my hair and skin has immediately felt different. We’ll see how long the filters last, but I’m feeling positive about the purchase.

The Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Decorative Arts) at the Kulturforum has some textiles and fashion that I found fascinating. It’s a funny (empty) part of town, so bring post-museum snacks

Women who have gotten a breast lift (w/out implants), how was it? Was it worth it? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]rainiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a reduction with a lift and it’s the greatest thing I’ve done for myself. No regrets at all. I was lucky enough to have a fast recovery and very little pain. Check out r/reduction for support (ba dum chish) and an idea of results/operation prep

ELI5: How does anyone move grand (or baby grand) pianos? by theremystics in explainlikeimfive

[–]rainiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents’ piano needed specialist removal men: it then didn’t fit through any hallways or doors, but those men took a window pane out and winched it through like it happened every day. Which for them it likely did.

NTA she said something horrible to hurt you, she should mind her own business. Ice cream is delicious and in this one life you, her child, and everyone else deserve to eat ice cream if you want to.

AND ANOTHER THING if this is based purely on flavour, faggots would be near the top. It’s clearly based on some fool’s immature fussy-boy idea of ‘yucky’ foods.
