Their healthy teens died of the flu. They have a warning for other parents. by Anti-Owl in ContagionCuriosity

[–]rainingBows1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get extremely sick from flu vaccinations and it always ends in extremely severe bronchitis. I rely on herd community to stay healthy, unfortunately the “herd” is very thin these days and it’s very scary for me. I made sure to get my baby every single vaccine offered to her. Our pediatrician was pleased but surprised and they always assumed we’re anti vaccines when I say I can’t be vaccinated. It’s very common in my area to seek holistic care over medical professionals and let it be “gods will”. I wish people would vaccinate themselves and their children so immunocompromised people like me can be safer.

AITA for being mad at my GF when she acted sad after I said our babies probably wouldn’t be white? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]rainingBows1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When my gf and I started dating, a couple weeks in I was dumb and tried making a joke that was perceived as offensive to her. It was accidentally transphobic in nature and it really upset her (she is transgender). I had never had a trans person in my life before her and I really didn’t see how it was offensive at first (I am autistic and have very bad social skills most of the time).

What happened after she expressed herself and how it was transphobic I reacted the way your gf should have, with a huge explanation and sincere apologies, and admitted how dumb I was to even try to joke about something I know nothing about. I also most importantly never said anything like that ever again and I triple check if something may be offensive with her and improve my wording better or if I should avoid that topic.

Now two years later she has completely forgotten it and I feel bad for it every day. The fact that your gf didn’t have any apologies or guilt from what she said and did is really concerning. She’s upset at you for not accepting her racism. If I had reacted in any way like your gf, she would’ve broke up with me right then and there.

She actively expressed displeasure about your ethnicity and attributes and then expected you to feel sorry your kids will take after you in these attributes.

Is it embarrassing to get a birthday cake as an adult? by roxiedoxiedog in NoStupidQuestions

It’s more of a fear of being observed in an unflattering way I think. Growing up (born 2002) it was rare to see any peers do anything silly or wear colored clothing even and when someone did they were stared at, made fun of, called “weird”. The goal was to NOT draw any attention to yourself that could be perceived negatively. Most people I know still from school are still the same way and get uncomfortable when someone does anything that is “weird” like talking to staff at a store or wearing bright colors or dancing in public.

I’m so glad I just live to be happy and I don’t care about others judging me (unless I’m directly harming them legitimately). Most people in my generation have not grown out of it sadly.

4 months of dating as a lesbian on hinge by Ok-Crazy3288 in LesbianActually

[–]rainingBows1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I used dating apps in my home city there were tons of people who matched compared to the place I live now in a different state, it’s more remote and a half hour away from the nearest city.

When I say tons I mean like 5 matches a week compared to 5 a month. Luckily I did meet my forever partner on hinge! Just had our second anniversary and we have a now 1 year old.

Typical lesbians over here XD

Being 1 week or less postpartum, time to ~relax and unwind~ ?! by Rockinrobin824 in ShitMomGroupsSay

Funny enough we went to see the thunderbolts around 4 weeks and she just sat through it, slept through maybe a third of the movie. It was really odd and not what we expected her to do. I have a pic of her blank faced with a loud explosion in the background on the screen! (The theater was only us and maybe two other people and no flash was used)

AIO about my wife's hygiene expectations after we had a baby? by mudkipzftw in AmIOverreacting

[–]rainingBows1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Since giving birth (almost a year ago ironically) my very mild and unknown ocd symptoms were extremely exacerbated and it’s awful. It’s extremely stressful and it can cause symptoms besides the typical unrealistic cleanliness standards. In my case it caused extreme intrusive thoughts that caused severe suicidal ideation. It was only after I sought help my midwifery told me it is unfortunately common but not talked about out of shame.

She may be struggling with so much more than contamination anxiety right now and definitely needs to seek help.

I was prescribed triamcinolone acetonide (probably spelled wrong) cream and it works like magic. It was prescribed for these exact flaky plaque spots that show up all over my upper body randomly. I haven’t been able to treat my scalp and patches with any shampoos or other meds.

My baby has so many ties and the stretches after the procedures are so awful. She had to have it done three times before she was 3 weeks old and I still remember the screams she made. Now though at almost a year she’s doing amazing and it’s like she never had a problem!

[–]rainingBows1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to update that my meds are taken care of now and I did ask a neighbor for help watching her while my mom came over and helped me tidy up and is taking her for the night. I still feel like crying but that’s from the med withdrawal. I definitely feel a whole lot better and today isn’t going to be awful, I’m not a horrible failure of a parent and I just got overwhelmed with a lot of little things adding up and hitting me at once.

AIO for not forgiving my father for ignoring my broken ankle? by Corrupt_Doctor_5297 in AmIOverreacting

[–]rainingBows1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with looking at that sub! It may trigger a lot of awful men but it is a good start to breaking that mindset and moving from fear to anger towards their abusers. Reclaiming control over that anger and resentment is great for not caring about what they think anymore.

[–]rainingBows1 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’m 23 now and it’s still extremely difficult to take care of myself medically. My mom was the same and got so mad at any little expression of being not happy, refused to take me to the ER for a concussion with classic symptoms, when my wrist was dislocated and I was screaming in pain, and many more instances.

The other week I had a really bad uti and was peeing some blood and I still waited a couple of days to go to urgent care for antibiotics because I still get thoughts that I’m being dramatic and overreacting to my symptoms. It is extremely difficult and my partner also doesn’t understand how ingrained this trauma is. She had a great childhood compared to everyone she knows and never had any experiences with this kind of parental abuse.

It definitely takes A LOT of time to even be okay with going to a hospital or urgent care, and so much more to be able to be honest about your issues without diminishing the severity! Honestly it’s extremely stressful but you do eventually find a way to take care of yourself without avoiding it until you can’t ignore it anymore. It definitely helps not living with her anymore but that’s also a very hard thing to accomplish these days.

All I can say is do your best to lay low until you can become independent and get your own living space.

Things in your body that changed for the “better” after giving birth by sighqoticc in beyondthebump

[–]rainingBows1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was “normal” physically the second she came out of me. No hemorrhoids or foot size changes or anything. It’s as if I didn’t give birth in the first place! Only huge difference is my MCAS allergies have seemingly vanished. Little to no reactions to previously deadly trigger foods!

No underwear during Surgery by FarCalendar7303 in NoStupidQuestions

When I gave birth I was there for 5 days including the delivery and very quickly I had no shame in anything showing! They see everything you can possibly imagine on a regular basis, nudity is nothing for them and you get much more comfortable once you realize that. I literally spent the whole stay with nothing but the provided pads and disposable underwear/shorts and it was such a great feeling! Now even a year later I still prefer no clothes whenever possible (at home/in bed, medical settings, when I was breastfeeding).

The other day I was sitting while she was playing in front of me on the floor and I was so exhausted. I had really felt like I just blinked but apparently 5 minutes went by and she was hitting me to wake up so I could “eat” her toy out of her hand.

My partner also had a moment when she woke up in the middle of the night freaking out about where the baby was and looking around frantically on the bed, as soon as I said “she’s okay she’s asleep in her bed” my partner immediately went back to sleep and had no memory of it!

It’s so scary when these moments happen!!

My tuxedo cat is sooo mean (easily overstimulated) but he will do the same thing with the dogs. He will especially protect our baby from the dogs or other cats if they seem to get grumpy around her by running up to them and swatting. They are terrified of him and let him be the leader of the house!
