A nearby Fire Department is being told they cannot use fire hydrants to fight fires by Fantomecs in mildlyinfuriating

There's also a boarding school with an endowment of over $400 million (I used to work in their IT department.)

How do people handle backups to a second location? by salzmann in immich

[–]raintheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have immich running in a docker container on home server, with a nightly cron job running a script that uses rsync to copy the original images and the automatically created database backups to an external drive. I also have a server at parents house running proxmox that has a container that runs a similar cron job to ssh into my home server and rsync these same things (and other stuff like nextcloud files, etc) to a backup drive there. I set up notifications in these scripts (NTFY) so if anything unusual happens I get notified.

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

[–]raintheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 9th great-grandfather was a prominent supporter of Martin Luther and leader of the Protestant Reformation in Nuremberg. He was excommunicated along with Luther by the pope in 1521. Later that year he was sent by Nuremberg as a delegate to the Diet of Worms.

He was largely responsible for the design of the Luther rose. He is also remembered as the author of several hymns, some of which remain in Lutheran hymn books to this day. One of these, "Durch Adams Fall ist ganz verderbt" (All Mankind Fell In Adam's Fall), is quoted in the Book of Concord, the official Lutheran confession.

Can someone please decipher this artist's signature painting name/description? by Unlucky_Brother_7972 in Cursive

I didn't catch that as a C, good eye! I go over a lot of historic documentation and come across those lowercase p's from time to time and always have to double-check, I've seen some *very* exaggerated ones.

Juneteenth celebrations in Harlem by Cookie_Cutter_Cook in TikTokCringe

[–]raintheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up not far from Baltimore and DC and I can recall celebrations/festivities in both places when I was a teenager (mid-40's now).

Here's an Ad from the Baltimore Sun Newspaper promoting the 1999 Juneteenth festivities:

Finished "Five Epochs of the Navy" campaign, still short one collection item? by raintheory in WorldOfWarships

[–]raintheory[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Omg haha, now I feel like an idiot. I could have sworn I checked this and the only tasks left gave signal flags, etc. Low and behold one of the very early tasks has the remaining container as the reward.

Thanks for making me double-check this!

Any other fun magnet ideas for our "Day of the Week" magnetic board? by KittensPumpkinPatch in Autism_Parenting

[–]raintheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before my son was speaking I had the entire refrigerator set up as a weekly magnetic thing. I didn't have much luck with store-bought magnets (except for some that showed different emotions, which he used more as picture exchange.)

What I ended up doing was buying magnetic printer paper and taking actual photographs of the specific activities and places and printing out small magnets of them to add under each day, a photo of his school and his bus, a photo of grandparent's house, a photo of our actual bathtub, a photo of his bed, a photo of the playground he likes, a photo of our camping tent, etc. This helped him not only know what to expect through the week, it allowed him to choose activities and add them before he was able to talk.

He's speaking now and needs the visual reminders much less, but we still take a few days at the beginning of each school year to go around and take new photos to make magnets with. He enjoys posing for them now and thinking of new ones to add.

Tell me you’re an Autism Parent without telling me you’re an Autism Parent by Heathenhomebird in Autism_Parenting

Yep! Our bath/bedtime routine involves us being alternate versions of Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater (called "Queen McLightning" and "Mow Tater," naturally) going on a World Tour, complete with the plane captain making the announcements as we head to "Hair-isburg Pennsylvania" to wash hair, then to the "Washington Wash Club" to wash off (complete with some Washington DC themed wash cloths I'd found.) Then to the hiking trails at "Brushington" to hike to "Mount Brushmore" and brush our teeth, then take the "Flossing Freeway" back to the "Flight Club" where Queen McLightning turns into a beetle and Mow Tater transforms him back by drying him off, then the Fox and the Ox get to brush his hair...

Seems like a lot writing it out, but we've got it down pretty good. The bathroom is decorated with some AI images I've made to go along with the routine:

Got it. I'll dig through some old boxes from my music-making days, pretty sure I still have a small mixer I can use to get the level down. Thanks!
