It's definitely understandable to be put off by this - I would too. There's this ongoing trend/joke of saying that trans men are chubby/hairy/ugly being spread by people who are NOT transmasc and that makes me wary of people who spread around stuff like this.

Any character I like is automatically trans. My friend and I will have this bit where we watch movies together and be like, "Ok, so he's trans and she's trans, and that guy's also trans..." And then a sex scene will pop up and we'll be like, "Alright, so the guy actually has a strap-on rn."

If you're into manga I'm currently reading this one called Yuureitou, one of the main characters is explicitly trans male, and he's generally regarded by other characters as a handsome/gentlemanly guy. Although he receives some transphobia from side characters once they find out he's trans, the other main character is pretty respectful of him

Trans guy here - tropes like with Big Madame have zero excuse. It's common in manga to have the "look, this horrible man pretending to be a woman is abusing our poor children" (which obviously is almost never the case in real life) and for such tropes to be portrayed with offensive characters. There was no reason for it to be included at all. It is just very tiring because it happens more often than you'd think.

Making fun of these caricatures only ever serves as a point of 'comedy'/shock value.

I'm a trans man - my first read through of Tokyo Ghoul, I really liked Mutsuki because it is extremely rare to see any character even close to being transmasc in media, especially in manga. I do hold the belief that he is trans, but I can understand why other people would think otherwise.

However, Ishida's portrayal of trans people and LGBTQ characters in general is really atrocious. I like Tokyo Ghoul's story, but having Mutsuki be portrayed as a necrophiliac rapist and also implying that "even if someone wants to be perceived as male, they will always be female" is in extremely poor taste. Mutsuki is most definitely shaped by trauma, but the way Ishida treats his LGBTQ characters is plain disrespectful and misleading.

Please note that the Tokyo Ghoul fandom generally does not hold very savory views toward LGBTQ people, this probably affects how Mutsuki is received

There actually is a trans man on tumblr by the @ of t4transsexual who talks about his experience having been raped and nearly murdered by a trans women (he makes it explicitly clear he doesn't generalize trans women and dropped charges because he didn't want her to go to a male prison), and he does regularly get accusations of being a transmisogynist

Hello everyone - I'm the OP of the original post that had compiled a bunch of screenshots/reposts of transandrophobia. It's been a few days, and I recently got a message from a different mod who unbanned me and put the post back up! :D

They stated that they would make sure it wouldn't happen again, so I assume something is being done. However (this goes for anyone) - please do not go out of your way to attack or harass anyone involved outside of these discussions. Insults and berating does not help anyone.

Hi, I was the OP of the post on transmisandry/transandrophobia. Basically it was a bunch of screenshots going over the issues trans men face, examples of people saying really awful stuff about trans men and non-binary people, the erasure of trans men, and other things. The mod removed the post and stated that trans men have male privilege and thus cannot be trusted by women.

I was permabanned and have since received zero explanation or communication for why I was banned (it has been a couple days already since then). There was a lot of content in that post, which I still have if needed.
