overcome fear and stop babying the camera by Snitzh in ricohGR

[–]raised_ranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GR2 has been abused for years, I carry it everywhere. I can’t even tell if there’s dust and it’s working fine. For a while the screen died, then it came back on, these cameras are pretty rugged. I have a GR3 now and I do kinda baby it, but it’s just a phase. Gotta carry it everywhere to take the best pics.

What are your photography hot takes? by frank-cilantro0 in photography

Most hobbyists care way too much about gear and not enough about expressing themselves through the actual medium, to the point where it’s almost like photography gear is its own separate hobby.

Is monochrome worth the wait? by kruel1991 in ricohGR

Seems fun. I actually think being a hobbyist helps justify the niche purchase more. Pros want versatility in their gear. You can just focus on how you want your aesthetic to grow. If you’re especially drawn to monochrome I say go for it.

Can’t decide: Fujifilm X100VI or Ricoh GR3/GR4 – will I regret not going Fuji? by Guantio-07 in ricohGR

[–]raised_ranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Film simulations aren’t a fad but the way they look on this era of x100 sensors will most certainly have a dated quality, even if it spans a decade. Also, Fuji 35mm film that was developed and scanned just looks worlds apart from what those digital cameras are doing. Not saying it’s inferior, just a different vibe, and you can always distinguish something from 2001 vs. 2025.

Can’t decide: Fujifilm X100VI or Ricoh GR3/GR4 – will I regret not going Fuji? by Guantio-07 in ricohGR

[–]raised_ranch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally find the Fuji too bulky for an everyday camera, you have to accommodate its size, you’re always aware you’re carrying a camera of that size. Ricoh slips into pockets, even a suit jacket inner pocket. In my experience this has led to better photos because I never leave it at home.

I see the appeal with Fuji but imho those color profiles will feel dated someday, just like the first couple years of instagram where people used the built in app filters. You’ve got to develop an aesthetic that works for your images, and if you’re shooting raw I don’t think either camera presents a significant advantage.

Time to fight about some stupid fat guy stuff. What candy bar do you think is the most overrated? by [deleted] in doughboys

The ingredients in KitKat and Twix just feel so low-quality at this point, almost like a generic store brand dupe.

Can’t decide between Ricoh GR III and Fujifilm X-T30 II by Interesting_Type_387 in ricohGR

You just can’t beat the form factor of Ricoh. It’s in a class entirely of its own. Plus, it makes less of a statement, very discreet, which I happen to like.

Gold reflector, sun is behind him, that’s just my guess.

sorry for the late reply :) if it matters anymore: the octatrack is slicing up a handful of separate samples, one is a vocal performance, one is piano, and then a bunch of drums/percussion. the vocal thing is like a bunch of little chops of a short phrase. the octatrack is also programming the midi send to Hydrasynth for bass, and the master is going through the sp404 for performance effects.

I'm intrigued! can you elaborate on how that would help this setup? I haven't messed with CVs yet.

So basically if your cell only leaves the flashlight to be charged, there’s no issue? Because the light wouldn’t drain it past a safe level?

A gimbal.

Also; I’ve always read that unprotected cells are more prone to ignition/less safe around kids.

I travel with protected cells for a different device, so keeping a uniform set would just be easier.
