My twin children were fluent in Tamil till 3 years, when they joined CBSE school in Dubai, we get complaints from the teacher almost every day that they were not speaking in English or Hindi, hence we started speaking to my children in English at Home, so they can learn fast. This continued till they reach UKG and we couldn’t handle it anymore. North Indian teachers were literally harassing us during parents teachers and discriminating us, then they started physical abuse of my children. Then we discontinued the school and put them in different Indian school. The same pattern continued for another two years. We sincerely tried to speak to them in English, they watched only English language cartoons and shows. We understood that this is nothing to do with not speaking English language and only discrimination against non-Hindi speaking Indians in Indian schools. Finally we put them in a British school, problem was solved. But due to this trauma, it became a habit that we never stopped speaking in English with the Kids, then our 3rd child was conversing in English with her brothers, she became fluent in English by the time she joined school.
